    Editing Finder with ResEdit

The only successful ResEdit hack I did on Finder involved a loophole with At Ease and Hypercard. If At Ease allowed Hypercard, then from within Hypercard (not the slimed down Player version) I could run any apps within Hypercard including those not allowed by At Ease.  Changing Finder's type to...

What is better? hard drive or expensive CF adapter?

Well, Mac Centris 650 has 3 nubus slots and more upgrade option plus it's 25MHz stock, slightly faster.  Or 33Mhz Quadra.  But they are in larger box that won't have the same appeal as a size XXL pizza box.

    Macintosh IIfx no hard drive

large axial caps aren't common anymore. That's probably why someone used radial caps instead. The only benefit of axials are lower clearance, radial stands up and takes less board estate and are likely cheaper in the long run.

What is better? hard drive or expensive CF adapter?

147GB won't be readable under System 7.x anyhow.  And if I chopped it into bunch of little partitions, even if I had a big 2 page display it still won't be enough to show all icons.  :p SD option looks good since I can still get 2GB SD card for a few dollars. (my Mother once picked up about...

What is better? hard drive or expensive CF adapter?

My Centris 610 still has the stock 80MB hard drive and it's now 21 years old so I should do something. But i don't want to replace or change OS so it will still be running System 7.1  IIRC there's limitation, was it 2GB max without HFS+ support or something? A CF adapter won't benefit from...

anyone remember name of this screensaver?

It ran on my PowerMac 7100 with OS 8.something (it died long ago), and I'm pretty sure it's a screensaver. I think it had something like 3D Enabled in the name, it had music and when it starts it shows the program's logo and cluster of sparking stars that were moving around. Then the screen...

    512KB VRAM SIMMs

On many Macs I've seen that supported 512k VRAM SIMM, it's almost always a single VRAM slot and next to a RAM slot. It seems if you design the board with through hole and mount the ZIP style RAM chips on the "back" side of the board instead of the typical front, it'd avoid clearance issue with...

Feeler: Mac Portable max-out RAM upgrade

So a full upgrade plus empty PDS slot? Was there good PDS upgrade board or something useful?  If so, this RAM upgrade would be quite popular!

    Duo 230 - Resurrection

Useful for mods.  Take out the phone jack, solder in a 4 pin S-Video port and wire up 5v and ground from modem board plus ADB line from Duo's EXT connector and you have a built in ADB port. No need for a mini dock to use a different keyboard or mouse or use ADB peripheral. I've done it. The...

Feeler: Mac Portable max-out RAM upgrade

How many active working Portables though?  Take out a few that is already maxed out, take out some who are not interested in upgrading anyway, and take out some people who are puritan and will prefer genuine Apple memory only.   100 upgrade kit would be a good estimate.   I'd jump but I never...

Can C610 be expanded like LC with Workstation?

I still have my Video Spigot card.  It was a very cool thing to have back in the day, being able to run anything on Macintosh screen. Since no adapter seems to exists, looks like I'd need a 650, 800, or 840av for the space.  Unless there's a schematic of PDS to nubus adapter somewhere and a way...

Can C610 be expanded like LC with Workstation?

Back in the old day, Macintosh LC had very limited space and was limited to either 2 dlsk drives (original LC) or 1 disk drive and 1 hard drive, no internal CD or other drive option.  And only 1 PDS slot.  MicroMac offered an option to expand the LC to add many more upgrade options. (I believe...

What is the Maximum RAM on a Mac II Series Mac?

What about the use of SIMM Tree (or stacker or saver) that lets one plugs 2 or 4 matching SIMMs into one existing slot?  At one time I had a pair (left and right low profile, there was high profile for system that had 4 slots as the high profile could fit over low profile) for my Centris way...

    VRAM not working?

Copied from a random web site: The Quadra 700 ships with 512 KB VRAM on the motherboard. You can upgrade this to 1 MB by installing two 256 KB or two 512 KB VRAM SIMMs in a single bank. For 2 MB VRAM, install six 256 KB or six 512 KB VRAM SIMMs, filling all VRAM sockets. (Note: the Quadra 700...

    PowerBop part II

So it is still possible if one finds out the correct frequency, modulation, and coding of the signal and fashion a radio base that works with those. I doubt FCC would approve though, it may operate on a frequency that is not open in USA. So try it at your own risk.

my Mac Centris 610- caps list for recapping? and PPC ?

Thanks but not at this time. I am not planning to run internet on my Macs, I am used to running Chrome at 1920x1080 and Centris can't do that or run modern style browser without choking on complex CSS or flash.  I most likely won't do much file sharing since I've copied most of the important...

Mac IIsi (My First Non Compact)

IIsi is a cute one, the only II of that design and Apple didn't offer similar size until Quadra/Performa 630 series.

Games/software that REQUIRE an 030 or 040 to run?

At the same time there are software that don't work right on newer Macs.  I had problem playing Dragon Lair game on my Centris 610 unless I turned off the internal cache.  There was a freeware game, a overhead dungeon crawl (I can't remember) that worked fine on B&W mode but was behaving...
