Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Let us know how you get on. I had a similar issue with one of my first adapters and I think I ultimately ended up with the more expensive StarTech 2-slot adapter, which works wonderfully. I also made the initial mistake of not using a UDMA CF card. My setup is with a Bronze Keyboard PB...
Yeah. It's definitely USB 1 rather than 2. I was expecting the transfer to be slow, but was a bit surprised when I was attempting to do *anything* else at the same time.
I've got 640MB of RAM in there as that's the cap for that machine. Also, as it's got FireWire, it natively supports OS 10.4...
So, I've just had a go at replacing a white iBook's (600MHz, 12") hard drive with an SD card using an Amazon-purchased IDE to SD adapter. I've done the CompactFlash to IDE job on a PB Bronze Keyboard (that works splendidly). As the SD card I bought has a decent read/write speed, I thought I'd...
Great news. Yeah, I've got a NuBus ethernet card in my Q700, even though it has built-in AAUI (I wanted the RJ45 port without bothering with the Asante FriendlyNet, or whatever it is). With OpenTransport 1.3.1 and AppleShare 3.7.4, I can easily communicate with my PPC Macs running 10.4.11 (G4...
Purchased yet ANOTHER LC 475 today (that makes 3). I have total buyer's remorse about it, because I don't need it, but with so little time left on the auction, I was afraid it might end up in a waste pile if it didn't sell. It was complete sans HDD for £12 (+£9 shipping).
z80.eu: Schmoburger, MJ313, Uni and others have provided some very useful information on this thread (not to mention the forums altogether). I think the general argument is that in replacing all of the caps, you will have eliminated bad caps as your culprit. The fact of the matter is, those...
Thanks for checking, Unknown_K. Sorry to hear about your dead drive.
pathw: Yeah, I tend to agree. Coupled with the fact that their shipping rates abroad are astronomical, I'll likely be limiting future purchases to few or none.
Yes, I used strong words. :p I don't think WeLoveMacs was wantonly deceiving me. It's just a shame that they sell the 2MB chips under the IIx heading. Still, it's kind of my fault for not doing my homework.
Well, this is annoying. Just stumbled across this document, which apparently states that the IIx doesn't allow for 2MB modules. Sooooo, I was sold on a lie. http://tech-insider.org/mac/research/acrobat/9204.pdf
I purchased 8x 2MB RAM chips for my Mac IIx from WeLoveMacs and no matter what combination I try, I can't get any of the chips to register. Essentially, any combination outside of the original 8x 1MB configuration leads to the error chimes. I've spent loads of time on various forums and websites...
Thanks techknight. Gotta get my hands on an oscilloscope, but that's probably something worth having more generally anyway. I'll likely open up the power supply and make note of the caps with an aim to order some replacements.
Well, I don't feel like this is any closure to the tale, but here's the state of things. I put everything back together and, despite cleaning the board thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol, I continued to get the Chime of Death when booting. So, in a desperate attempt, I installed and removed the...
I washed a Colour Classic board in the dishwasher, dried it and then let it sit buried in rice for about 24 hours. It worked extremely well and I might end up doing that with this Q700 board if my attempt with isopropyl alcohol doesn't work out. I would consider it a 'last-ditch' effort, though...
No actual updates except to say that I cleaned the board this morning - this time with a near-submersion method (I didn't have a container wide enough or enough isopropyl alcohol to fill a deeper one to submerge the whole board all at once). I isolated different parts of the board and went over...
I should say that the stock RAM (20MBs) had been working perfectly well and then not. I have another batch of 20MBs as well, but none of those worked either. Tried my newer 4x 16MB SIMMs also. The MB looks clean as a whistle. Maybe I'll give it an isopropyl alcohol bath soon.
I've had the MB...
