I'm hunting for a replacement pram battery for my 5300cs
I'm going to try rebuilding a battery setup from scratch.
What is the connector type at the end of the cable that is used? Anyone know of similar cable/connector that could be used?
The web proxy stuff is interesting, but, breaks with alot of websites. (CNN works, but, startribune.com is hosed as an example)
But, its an interesting way around some of the stuff. I might try it in Linux at some point.
Just getting email and stuff working again would be huge!
Now, to just...
Is there a convienent way to setup a different primary hostname and IP address than what you have for defaults?
I would like to set mine up as macipgw.localdomain with an address like 192.168.0.76, then have it route to my network gateway on 192.168.0.1 (DNS is 192.168.0.2)
I've already...
I didn't see any logic board inside my 5300 dead battery pack. Just a few bits (thermistor, fuse, and what looks like a 2 prong eprom?) behind the contacts)
I plan to test with some 2KmAH AA cells first, and then try out higher capacity. (2500mAH)
Which controller is your mSATA <-> IDE using?
the only one that has work "reliably" for me in any Powerbook is the JMicron JM20330. I strongly recommend either Sandisk or Toshiba mSATA units with these. Toshiba tend to be the most reliable (and ironically, the cheapest) on fleabay.
The...
I've kept my System 7.6.1 partition to 1.9GB (HFS) and not had any issues. HFS+ can safely handle 4-8GB partitions. So a 32GB CF card would be ideal if you want to stick with that media technology.
I am assuming you are using a CF <-> IDE adapter, correct? That shouldn't pose a problem...
I got my 5300CS to boot from a Sandisk 512MB CF card from an old digital camera I was not using.
I formatted it first and installed the bits onto it like any new drive. You can boot from CF/ATAcard.
But, its not nearly as fast as an IDE drive is going to be.
Ideally, you would want to use a...
You need to have AES+TKIP for WPA (or WPA/WPA2 mixed) enabled on our access point.
It is also required to have BG or BGN (mixed) on 2.4GHz, as this is how I got mine work on my Linksys and Netgear routers.
DD-WRT has these setting as well, so a cheapie TP-Link or other router should work fine...
Well, I got it brought back to life. I tracked down a NOS 2000MAh battery for a decent price ($39 shipped, last one in stock!) and I swapped for a 58MB memory card. (so I now have 64MB installed) I am doing this until I can finish surgery on the dead factory battery.... project for another day...
So if I read this correctly, I could use this on a Pi or in a VM to "proxy" or "tunnel" non-TLS aware apps on from OS7/8/9 (like email clients) into SSL secured IMAP/POP3 servers.
correct?
How does the HTTP proxy work with things that have forms/logins?
Wasn't there a vertical stand for the IIsi style case like there was for the Sun IPX at one time?
I recall there was an aftermarket unit made that was grey/black. We had one for the IIci or IIcx that were in the media lab.
Thinking of a franken-mac II project now that the retro bug has bit.
I think the Prusa i3 is the one with the best quality I have seen so far from local enthusiasts. But, to get the best results requires an enclosure with ventilation and good temp controls.
Nearly every complaint I have read about these units involves either poor filament or the alignment of the...
My tried and true SSD config for IDE notebooks. (works on both PPC and X86 systems)
Toshiba 32GB mSATA

Anyone have experience with the external/portable CDrom drives that look like portable players on the 5300 powerbooks?
I know I need a 30pin-DB50 pin cable setup, but, the CDrom drives I see on fleabay are the internal battery type.
Are these all junk or will they work for basic usage...
This was "a ways back" and the golems who ran the datacenter were as anti-mac as you can expect.
We had Leopard with a couple of custom patches on the 06 doing laps around the $500K Sparc servers with the Xeon quad core setups. Putting the web services on a different box than the DB also made...
Sent my 500Mhz g3 pismo board off to the reballing service guy in Florida along with the 7410 chip from China. The 400Mhz is working fine and I ran through some quick tests and gaming to see if it ran into any issues... ZERO!
I'll post some results next month when I get it back. The 400MHz...
