    Free PC #3

Here's what's getting rediculous for me. That machine is getting pretty close in spec to my main machine I use everyday: An AthlonXP 2500+ I need something new. :(

Around here, these low-end Quicksilvers go for around $200 in craigslist.

    Another B&W

Yeah, that's one things that's so painstaking about the software process. There are tons of non-oem disks that have their contents scribbled on them, many are marked wrong, and some aren't marked at all. So far I've found a scribbled copy of a 7.5 tools disk and Disk Copy 6.3.3 (both usefull)...

    Another B&W

Mostly video cards and a few thicknet PCI adapters. Much I haven't identified. I've been trying to catalogue the mess of 3.5" disks I have also recieved to see what works, and then have been recording it into spreadshoot.

    Another B&W

Granted, I haven't yet fully catalogued that van-full of stuff yet, and that was about two months ago.... I have a guy that has been giving me stuff of his and surplus stuff from the company where he works. I have scored a bunch of software, cords and odds and ends, NUBUS cards, books, and a...

    System 7.5 memory issue

I'm going to go ahead and admit there's some voids of my knowledge about the classic macos. What I have is a quadra running System 7.5 who's system software is using over 33mb of 36 available and won't launch word citing not enough memory. it can't be too complicated. Is there too many...

    Things!

I wouldn't accept any "conquest" without the express idea that the stuff was now mine. I mean, did he give you the stuff or is he he essentially having you store it for him free of charge until someone there wants it?

    IBM PS/1

Was having a garage sale when my neighbor brought her old PC to include for a few bucks. It was in very good shape and hadn't been used in years. She thought it was broken as it gave an error that amounted to a dead CMOS battery and she hadn't dared to hit the ESC key to continue. It's a...

68k FLoppy issues. Can't read disks, for some reason.

Actually, they won't even complete a format no matter what I do, even after several attempts.....

68k FLoppy issues. Can't read disks, for some reason.

I cleaned the rails thoroughly and lubricated lightly of one subjet. Observing the drive with shield off, the heads move, seem to be making contact with the disk (confirmed good disk) and still gets bad disk error when initializing. Also, this happened to a second. I think there's a reason I...

68k FLoppy issues. Can't read disks, for some reason.

None of the drives are that dirty, and they seem to operate just fine mechanically. I'm kinda scratching my head right now...

68k FLoppy issues. Can't read disks, for some reason.

You know, the more research I do, the more I find that 90% of problems with floppy drives are mechanical in nature (IE cleaning and lubing). I am going to tear into these things and clean them thoroughly, including using more than just air on the heads. It's possible that a thin layer of...

68k FLoppy issues. Can't read disks, for some reason.

Okay, I have one spare auto-inject drive in the pile of disks that came in all that crap I got. I installed it into the IIci and it seemed to work, for a while. Now it sporatically works. Same for the IIsi machine. the SE doesn't work at all. I've cleaned them out with air and have cleaned...

68k FLoppy issues. Can't read disks, for some reason.

I'm having a bit of an issue going through the vast array of machines and floppy disk's I've "conquered" lately. My Quadra 650, Mac IICi, and SE FDHD all runing some form of System 7 read virtually every disk unreadible... Ah well, so they lost their data. Floppy disks aren't stone tablets...

    Radius conquest (Nubus) updated

Yeah, I just picked up two more in my gargantuan haul. though not yet tested by me, I understand has a bad HD (and I also got a box full of HDs). I have three total now. I'm not liking their heft, given it can be hard for me to lift things these days...
