It's sad to see it go... Well, I'm glad the Internet Archive has a full copy of the website, I'm downloading it right now for future preservation. This stuff is invaluable!
Wow, they really seem to have gutted this little girl for parts! The case looks good, though. I wonder if it's possible to source the motherboard and the rest of the components to restore its original functionality?
It's fixed! :)
I shall really thank Ferrix97 here for the wonderful job he has done recapping my LC!
As it turned out, he lives pretty close to my place - so after almost three weeks spent arranging a meeting, finally I gave him the baby last Saturday to have it fixed. Guess what? On Monday...
I guess somebody could be interested in that SE!
Sure, it needs an hard drive, but it's not a huge problem... It might need a precautionary recap, though, as we all know those caps like to fail.
So I'd say - don't throw that SE into the recycle bin, it can still be good for someone! If you...
Guess it's time for a recap then :) I had a feeling it was due to caps failing, these machines are pretty much unreliable when it comes to caps due to their age. I feel a little uncomfortable to replace SMD capacitors, so I'll probably leave the work to someone more experienced in electronics...
I'm sorry, I'm not really practical with all the standards that were used back then. I know that ISA was a standard card interface used by a lot of IBM clones in the mid-80s, but I'm not accustomed to power supply standards and so forth!
I've read about the IIGS monitor, but I haven't ever...
Hi Elfen!
Thanks for your suggestion, but I don't think it's a hard drive issue - I tried booting the system with no hard drive connected to the internal SCSI bus, but the whining still occurs. It sounds like an electrical noise of some sort, so I don't think it's the fan, either, but I'll...
Hello guys!
I've been given a not-recapped Macintosh LC that's behaving strangely.
It powers up and chimes very happily (though the volume is low, so it's in need for a recap soon), it boots without an issue from an external SCSI drive, it recognizes internally connected SCSI drives (though...
That's some interesting stuff! Seems like someone has preceded us by almost three decades in successfully having a 128k logic board running without its AB. The video circuit seems pretty crazy stuff - does it output a standard composite video signal? That would be pretty easy to convert into...
Great job, everyone! This is really an impressive haul and I'm glad everything worked out ok in the end!
It'll probably take a lot of time to check them thoroughly and bring them back to shape, but this is nevertheless a huge opportunity for the Mac lovers community! Also, I didn't expect NeXT...
I know that at a certain point, BMOW was looking into making a new logic board, completely compatible with the original Plus one, using "modern" components as part of his "Plus Too" project; however three years have passed, and I don't know whether he kept the research active or put the project...
I, for one, would be very glad to have another way of running a Macintosh Plus logic board without the original AB, since both my ABs have failed on me :(
I was just considering that, from a collector's point of view, having a classic Mac without its original AB is a suboptimal solution, and...
Well, at that point, I'm wondering if it would be feasible to build a replacement "analog board" to completely bypass the original AB.
My reasoning is that a large part of the original analog board is pretty much video circuitry employed to generate the appropriate output to drive the CRT...
I understand you, falen5! I myself live in Italy and Macs are greatly overpriced here. But it's only a matter of patience and luck: good occasions come up every now and then! As for the topic yeah, it's just a regular Classic II.
Although I'm not really an expert in electronics, I don't think it's really feasible. At least not employing the existing connection to the analog board, that is.
For that to work, the signal coming out of a compact Mac's logic board would have to be a CGA/EGA digital TTL signal, but as far as...
Speaking of memory, I've been pondering just how much memory should I put in a recently acquired Macintosh IIsi (it currently has 3MB, which is really unacceptable).
My basic goal is to run System 7.5.5 or Mac OS 7.6.1 at an acceptable speed, and maybe play some games on it (nothing really...
Hi all,
I finally decided to order a soldering tool so that I can try fixing it.
The first thing I want to check is the flyback transformer and the analog board joints in general, as iMac660 suggested they could very well be the culprit here.
I have a question regarding the soldering...
