    Wifi Extension Development Thread

@Crutch the default gateway IP on the GL-iNet devices is 192.168.8.1, so start by trying that? But if you've bridged your networks, perhaps the device is getting an IP address from your main router. The GL-iNet also provides a hostname that you can use instead of IP address, on the AR-300M the...

@Crutch awesome! Have you tried out the Wifi extension on your SE/30 yet? I'd love to know if anybody is having success with it.

I had the same problem with my AR-300M - ethtool wouldn't identify eth1 (the LAN port) - but I later discovered that it worked fine for eth0 (the WAN port). So then all I did was swap the LAN & WAN ports using the Luci interface, under Network settings.

Well it's written in C++, so that's a good start. There's a good amount of abstraction in the code too. Probably not something I'd ever tackle though...

If you haven't already bought a Vonets, then I would recommend an OpenWRT device (see previous reply a bit further back in this thread for more info). The only device I've tested is this one, but it's pretty good: https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-ar300m/

v2 of the MacWifi extension is now available for download: https://github.com/antscode/MacWifi/releases This version adds support for OpenWRT devices and allows you to specify device settings, such as Username & Password. More information about OpenWRT is in the readme. The extension now...

    Se/30 networking

Well you could always try a Wi-Fi module  :)   The above article uses a Vonets card - however I now recommend an OpenWRT device such as the GL-AR300M (which is also in an external box in case you don't want to pull your Mac apart) There's also a system extension for displaying a Wifi icon in...

I find MacTCP Ping handy for checking basic network connectivity (also works with Open Transport)

    Se/30 networking

A common issue is that vintage Mac network cards only supports a fixed speed and duplex (usually 10mbs Half Duplex), and they don't support the "auto negotiate" standard that modern Routers use to determine the speed & duplex. Check your Router settings to see if you can disable auto...

TCP/IP networking? HTTP Requests? Visual MSB??

I've written a basic HTTP library in C++ (based on MacTCP): https://github.com/antscode/MacHTTP It can be compiled using Retro68 on a modern Mac or PC.

I've got stunnel working on my OpenWRT box - however it's not a magic bullet solution, because the client application needs to be written specifically to communicate via stunnel for SSL connections. i.e. it won't allow you to visit HTTPS websites via a web browser. I don't think there's any...

@Hustletron it should work with any Ethernet card, as long as you can connect it to the wifi module (i.e. it has an RJ45 port). I haven't tried it with the VAP11N, but I'm hoping someone who already has one can try it out? I'm confident that it will just work. The Vonets was the first wifi...

Yep, you can download the extension here: https://github.com/antscode/MacWifi/releases It works with the VM300 (with default login credentials), and so far I've tested it on a SE/30 and a Colour Classic. I'll release a new version soon with support for OpenWRT devices, and also the ability to...

    Wifi Extension Development Thread

After many hours of frustration, and just when I was about to give up - I managed to get my OpenWRT wifi module communicating at 10mbs / Half Duplex with my Mac... I'll post detailed instructions soon - I just need to remember exactly what I did to get it working!

    Wifi Extension Development Thread

I've started tinkering with an OpenWRT wifi device (I got the GL-inet device that @hfrazier suggested - but I assume a Raspberry Pi could also be used). Communicating with the device is great, as OpenWRT provides a json api for virtually all configuration functions. Also, I was able to install...

    A Wiki for Classic development?

MacHub shows promise, but has stalled due to a lack of free time :(  It uses Facebook and Google's "OAuth for devices" to allow a vintage mac to authenticate with the help of a modern smartphone: Eventually I'd like it to show your Facebook feed, Gmail inbox etc - perhaps as a screensaver.

    A Wiki for Classic development?

Further to the MPW Emulator, there is also the Retro68 project. I've used this successfully to build a few libraries and apps - all on my Windows 10 laptop. Retro68 also has its limitations - but writing classic Mac apps in a modern IDE sure is nice.

    A Wiki for Classic development?

I think it's a great idea. I've also been teaching myself classic toolbox dev over the last year or so, so I'd be happy to share my experiences on the wiki.

    Brand New SE/30 Logic Board

Thanks @trag. The big issues I had was getting my soldering iron under the capacitor to melt the solder. Perhaps it's just the Panasonic caps, but they fully covered the soldering pads. I ended up holding my soldering iron for far too long on the motherboard and I started to panic that I was...

    Brand New SE/30 Logic Board

For an absolute beginner like me, installing caps with legs was much easier than surface mounts - I guess it comes down to personal ability. I bent the caps 90 degrees and applied some hot glue - it's ugly but prevents the solder pads from being broken if I knock the caps accidentally. But I...
