Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
That's a real shame that 10mb/full duplex didn't resolve the issue for you. Are you able to connect to other devices via ethernet on your SE/30?
I also discovered the same issue with logging in via multiple devices - at first I thought that was the issue, but the response code is 200 and not...
Small update: I had a play with issuing HTTP commands directly from a Mac application (using a HTTP client I've written in the past). The good news is that I was able to communicate with the module via http://vonets.cfg - I was worried that the DNS resolution wouldn't work on the mac, but it...
I have a DaynaPort card. I also have an Excelan card but I haven't tried it out yet.
Can I just confirm that you are connecting the wifi module to your NIC via the supplied USB cable and not the RJ45 port on the wifi card? (I made that mistake at first)
From the Vonets datasheet:
Failing...
Compiling Retro68 can take hours, so ensure you've installed all of the dependencies in Cygwin. To help, I've attached a screenshot of all the packages I have installed - there's nothing more frustrating that sitting through 2 hours of compilation for it to crash out and you have to start over...
@hfrazier the C code is fairly foreign to me too. I've been learning Mac programming in my spare time over the last year, so I'm only just getting the hang of it. I will port the code to C++, which is a lot closer to C# (i'm a .NET dev).
If you're keen to try compiling the code using Visual...
Building a Wifi Extension for 68k Macs
I've previously posted a few hardware hacking projects where I retrofitted a Vonets VM300 Wifi card into a SE/30 and a Colour Classic. They work pretty well, but configuration has always been a pain as you need to do it from a Modern Mac or PC using a web...
Sweet! Great work. Well there's a definite possibility of writing a HTML & JS solution. Did you try sending an Accept header with your requests? I wonder if the VM300 can return other response types such as XML or Json?
e.g. Accept: application/xml or Accept: text/json
@Bolle thank you for your reply. My screen issues are different to that - I get random horizontal lines flickering across the width of the screen when opening windows or moving the mouse - however they don't persist on the screen. It only happens with 2 PDS cards installed.
But you could be...
OK I've gone full-circle. I managed to get everything installed and running with my stock SE/30 ROM and Mode32 on System 7.5.3. But I have exactly the same problems as when I started: Weird artefacts appearing on the screen and frequent crashes.
The good news, I guess, is that I can cancel out...
Thanks @Trash80toHP_Mini, yeah the NIC was working fine directly in the PDS slot with my prior install of 7.5.
However I now think that it might simply be a corrupt installation of the driver software - because even when I pulled all the cards out, it's still bombing.
I think I was supposed to...
If you're a software dev, what's particularly cool about Browsy is that it's compiled using Retro68. In other words, the entire app was written and compiled using gcc on a modern-day Mac, PC or Linux box.
I finally got around to reverting back to my stock SE/30 ROM and using Mode 32 - I also had to do a clean install of System 7.5. I had some success...
The good news is that the Turbo 040 card worked perfectly, even with 32-bit addressing turned on. So I definitely think using the stock SE/30...
I installed the Noctua fan in my SE/30 today - boy was it a lot of work! The old fan wires were stuck in with hot glue - I removed them by melting the glue with an old soldering iron.
Now my Mac runs really quiet and I can feel good airflow coming out the back. Very happy with the result.
Hey @hfrazier. Did you try a factory reset of the VM300? You do it by shorting out pins 5 and 8. See this link: http://www.vonets.com/serviceView.asp?D_ID=213
Great find with the telnet info - it looks like that pretty much covers all of the commands. In regard to a Javascript implementation, I...
@techknight the board has an inbuilt web server, so you can program it via a web browser.
I also believe it supports Telnet commands, but documentation on this is scarce.
So, the Mac should be able to change settings by issuing Telnet or HTTP commands to the board's IP address.
@CodeMonkeyZA sure I can write up some Windows install instructions (note that I've already added a bit about Windows install to the Readme here https://github.com/autc04/Retro68)
But it's first worth mentioning some of the limitations of Retro68 - primarily any precompiled libraries / object...
Hey @hfrazier, I'm still planning to give it a go. I've been slowly learning the Macintosh Toolbox and building a few network libraries which I've put on GitHub.
Just so hard to find the time, but hopefully later in the year!
