    Score! Top End Aluminum PBG4

Oh awesome man! i really like those things. No, you cannot go above 2GB RAM, but even so 2GB is nothing to scoff at. i had to replace the motherboard in one of those things recently, was impressed at how complicated it was lol. it even has a subwoofer located just below the "C" key.

    Possibly Broken Pismo

its lacking a hard drive and has nothing in the expansion bay, which is kind of a bummer, but it appears to be in otherwise top shape. it even has some RAM installed, but i haven't taken the cage off to see what capacity, etc. i've got a paper to write and a few other odd chores, but later...

    Possibly Broken Pismo

Well i was cleaning up in the back room and noticed this lowly G3 powerbook sitting on a shelf. I asked my boss what was up with it, and he said it had a bad mobo. Fortunately, it has a flawless keyboard and a perfect display, both of which i could use as parts for my 500MHz Pismo, so i...

    Reaquiring an old friend...

that last point brings up an interesting question: what RPM were those old SCSI drives? 4200? but grats on the re-acquisition, my family's first powermac was a 6100/66 and it lasted a little over 10 years as a daily machine before the power supply went out.

Easiest PowerBook I have worked on in a LOOONNGGG time...

when you've replaced the motherboard on an AlBook, then we'll talk about "easy". don't even get me started on the 12" AlBooks... In reality, AlBooks are an real PITA to work on. the easiest G4 laptop by far is the last-gen TiBooks. even replacing the motherboard is a relatively simple procedure.

    17" Studio Display

Well as some of you might know I work at the University Computer store at UTK in tennessee, and one perk of the job is that people sometimes bring in cool shit for us to resell. Today, the tech-gods gave us four 17" Studio Displays, all of which work. My boss and I picked one up each. We're...

I would like to build a game machine

TA is an absolute power hog. It will bring any G3 machine to its knees in a hurry (especially if you remove the 250 units limit). for that i would highly recommend the G4. in fact...i would recommend the G4 for just about all of those games. and USB joysticks are a dime a dozen. you should...

What is your favourite compact mac? (B/W ones)

i wish we could vote twice, but i would have to say the 128K and the SE/30, not only because i own both but because they represent the two greatest levels of innovation within the compact lineup, imo.

    Which Trackball Powerbook?

Speaking of RAM, good luck in finding some. I was incredibly lucky to come across a 10MB stick for 165c/180c models, and a 6MB stick for 160/165/180 greyscale models. and yes, they are different, the chips are configured differently.

    Which Trackball Powerbook?

if you could find one with a battery it would be even better. thats the one thing keeping me from actually using my PB180 as a regular note-taking machine.

iBook G4 Hard Drive...Needs Replaced, Suggestions?

to be honest man i'd go for a larger capacity 5400rpm drive for less money. you won't really see that big of a difference between a 54 and a 72 on that machine. two i found with a real quick newegg.com search: 120GB 5400RPM 8MB Cache 80GB 5400RPM 8MB Cache i have almost the exact same 120GB...
