    Is the Wiki dead?

I can take care of the Wiki. My understanding is the last iteration was Dokuwiki, which i use professionally and at home for over 15 years now. And by use i mean i'm the admin in a large European company that hosts 150 or so instances for their businesses, from development to sales, NOC and so...

    SE/30 ... finally!

Getting closer to a nice setup: Finally i found the fresh batteries, so I'm opening the SE/30 again. I also pulled 4x 4MB ram out of an IIsi, that means i should end up with 32MB, enough to give A/UX and NetBSD a chance. While at it, i printed an internal frame for a SCSI2SD, which i also...

    SE/30 ... finally!

Shame, then i can't do better than 4x 1MB. Got the Zip connected, did a fresh installation, everything is peachy. Got the Rodime connected, found some old stuff from 1992, backing it up now (minus the personal stuff). It was a good day.

    Ah UPS, Killers of Classics

I package computers and hifi stuff into bubblewrap, then in a box, then into bubblewrap and into another box. Can't say it's fool proof, but i haven't lost anything i sent yet and i'm a certified fool.

    SE/30 ... finally!

Makes sense. However, as it turns out, those 4x 2MB are just 4x 256kB, so now i have 17.408K:poop:. Once i find my batteries, i'll open the SE/30 again and put in 4x 1MB from before. I think i'll also try just 2x 4MB, as well as 2x 4MB + 2x 1MB n the second bank, maybe it works. I used...

Is there anything interesting one can do with A/UX?

If you want to run modern stuff, there is NetBSD and it's packaged stuff. Sure, you will not be able to run LibreOffice or a modern Browser (because of memory mainly), but there are lots of applications that should still be useful. From netatalk-2.2 (in pkgsrc) to nethack. The problem is of...

    SE/30 ... finally!

O-ok. So i opened the SE/30: Plenty of dust. Battery was still fine, but obviously flat! Date is from 1989. Couldn't find the fresh ones i bought in April. Scrubbed the board with water and methanol, to neutralize the cap liquids. Some corrosion was visible. Not recapping now...

Help! memory expansion for Quadra 650

I think going for max memory makes sense if you want to run alternative operating systems to MacOS in the future. Using A/UX and particularly NetBSD with the full amount of ram is worth the wait at boot time i think.

    SE/30 ... finally!

Was buying some caps just now, stuff got expensive, ordered parts for 5 or 6 macs, only the logic boards: 82,59€ for a bunch of caps! I may have to go panhandling for a bit to be able to afford recapping my analog sections. I see. Well, then i suspect the algorithm not doing it's job is...

Where is that wiki anyways today? Seems to be offline.

    SE/30 ... finally!

Are you in 50 or 60Hz land? I have read on the patent Google filed in 2013 about auto detecting CRT banding, and it seems the lower the frequency, the worse the algorithm is. Add to that the slight jitter you can see in CRTs that old and the algorithm can't latch on. Of course there are no user...

Cheers, i'll give this a try later and report back.

    SE/30 ... finally!

It almost seems as if i like expensive paperweights, i have so many. Will order a round of fresh caps later. I know the sound doesn't work, that means some caps have gone up already. Also, slight jitter in the CRT image isn't a good sign either. The OS seems to have signs of decay as well, for...

    SE/30 ... finally!

After looking for almost two decades, i found a SE/30. No upgrades, 8MB ram, 40MB harddisk, fair appearance, works fine. Didn't open it yet. Sadly, i had to fork over 225€, dude was cold as stone and thought he could easily get 700€ because he saw it on Ebay. Anyway, my 68k collection is...

Power Mac G4 IDE to SSD adapter?

Cheers. I got two G4 Power Macs, one 667MHz, one 750 Quicksilver, payed 40€ together. Both have very loud and slow IDE drives. Thought i update them with some old Sata SSDs i have. Should i get a special 40pin IDE to Sata adapter or are the 8€ ones from china ok?

    Some new SCSI2SD problems

I can't get my 5.0a to work. Bought it a few years ago, never had the time to tinker with it. I installed the latest firmware using Linux. It worked, i can save and read the options. However, as soon as there is a CF card inside, it freezes scsi2sd-util. Is this supposed to happen? Eject the...

    Asus EEEPC + Linux

I guess i would use it with Debian Wheezy (should be lableled as stable in the next few days) and twm. Really no need to waste memory on some sophisticated desktop environment. In case you want to try it, here is my old .twmrc: http://www.tecneeq.de/files/dotfiles/home/karsten/_.twmrc Twm is...
