Mac SE PSU (Sony CR44M) recap success story

That's what i thought you did  . Did you just recap the PSU? What about the logic board then, did you recap that? I think it's wise to recap everything, i even found a small electrlytic cap in a mouse that could ruin my day.

Mac SE PSU (Sony CR44M) recap success story

Well done. My SE/30 is wobbly as well, i should finally order the parts and get it done. Well, soon. 😅

    AppleDesign powered speakers grille removal.

I never had any rust or other activity on metal. I think i would simply risk it, they are probably glued in.

    Guide or recommendations for 8.0/8.1?

I don't, but now that i think about it, i should find something like "SetDate" for MacOS 8.1: http://www.synack.net/~bbraun/macapps.html

At this point it's fair to say any electrolytic capacitor is perfectly capable in ruining your day. Are there some kind of leak proof caps except ceramics/tantalum/polyprop with larger capacitance?

    Guide or recommendations for 8.0/8.1?

For me it's 6.0.8 on anything Classic or smaller. 7.1 if there is a chance for A/UX, dual boot 8.1 if possible. Everything newer than 8.1? See pic:

    Restoring a Macintosh II

In my experience it's paramount to get schematics, so you can check every single capacitor leg connects to the chip it's supposed to connect to, using a multimeter. Then you go from there. Sometimes a capacitor pad or trace is just gone, then you need to get creative, lay down small wires to...

Just won a compact Mac on auction!

The fabric is niceer than mine as well, mine is some polyester blend, this seems to be cotton.

I mean the foam between the layers of inner and outer fabric.

    Beta’s obligatory thread

IDE drives might be a blessing, you can cheaply turn this to solid state. CF cards are basically IDE disks, they just need a passive adapter to get hooked up, something like that: https://www.ebay.de/itm/255244033137 Best to order different models, they are cheap enough. Small CF cards up to 4GB...

    Beta’s obligatory thread

It's a beauty. :D Do they boot like other Macs? If so you could do the old HDD switcheroo.

Just won a compact Mac on auction!

Nice one. :giggle: I have a bag too, sadly the foam padding between the inner and outer fabric seems to fall apart, which means there is a bunch of particles everywhere. I was thinking about replacing the foam, but lack the sewing skills to close it up again. Hope yours is stable in that regard.

Centris 650: Operation "Oscillator Socket Hack"

I think it's fairly common that 42 or even 44 MHz works. Have to order the oscillators and give that a go. So far it's smooth sailing, didn't notice a single problem with 40MHz.

    BlueSCSI Issues - Bus Error

Bus error could be software, from defective desktop file to wrong enablers. I would wipe the image with zeros, or create a blank one, activate termination, use ID0, and have it alone on the internal SCSI bus. Then i would zap the PRAM clean and boot a floppy with the patched apple scsi hd format...

Cutting the case of a Mac SE

I would try for an external case for the Jaz drive, avoiding cosmetic changes on the SE. I have an external SCSI CD drive i can give you, but shipping would be harsh i suppose. Easy to remove the CD and put something else in there, HDD, Jaz, Zip, removeable drive bay, you name it. You also...

Centris 650: Operation "Oscillator Socket Hack"

The board gets transplanted into a Quadra 700 case right now, so this particular port isn't useable anyway. Seems to be useable still, if one cuts free one or two holes. The solder pads are large enough to put down a good thick blob of solder and go from there, i feel this is very robust, even...
