The roms should just pull out right? The side tag looks pretty standard. This is probably much like the non production 128's sent out to programers. Mostly like production, but not to get out and have software made. Didnt know what they were calling it, so no silk screen, its an LC type...
We just keep saying it as no real troubleshooting can occur until that is done first. Kind of like trying to start a car without a battery. Nothing is going to happen until you do that first.
The 4400 is an odd bird. The person I got mine from had hard drive issues. He unplugged it (the drive that is) . I plugged it in and its worked every time I have used it. But he mentioned the same kind of issues you have. Maybe its a pram issue of some sort?

I had to be on OS9 and have the disk in the actual CD/DVD drive for the updater to run per the read me file. It goes through open firmware button pressing and the like on the cube, I didnt read the tower section, but it would seem it would be the same.

the physical speaker. If you do a search there is already a thread somewhere on this. In fact it was talked about around 2 weeks ago again. I pulled one from an LC and drilled out the rivets and put in a newer known working speaker and all was well.
the IIci you can just move the feet to the side as it has holes there also and stand it up like the Quadra 700 its modeled after. The IIsi is a whole other beast. Not sure if they made that.
