Apple hardware wasn't that smart. 3rd party hardware can be (Sonnet is particularly annoying with their "simply fast" mantra). I have a 450 MHz G4 7410 ZIF that has smarts on it. It is designed to be a drop-in replacement for the G3 in both beige and B&W models. So the card recognizes...
Many rev A boards are capable of 83 MHz, but I've yet to come across a Rev B board which can be clocked that high and be stable. But that is beside the point. The jumper settings on the board will allow 500 MHz on a 66 MHz bus with no problem.
Peace,
Drew
The remote also controls the CD Player and FM Radio applications, though support for the FM Radio app may be limited. I don't recall if it changes channels or not. No other applications work with the remote control.
It would be really darn cool if some hacker could find where the remote is...
It also works in CardBus compliant PowerBooks. In fact, it works in all PowerBooks except 500 series 'Books with Rev A or Rev B PCMCIA card modules.
Peace,

It's not a matter of the OS being recent or useful that keeps Apple from offering 8.x or 9.x for free (though I'm sure it doesn't hurt). Rather, both of those operating systems as shipped contain licensed code from third parties that Apple can't release for download without paying a fee to the...
Good for you. If you don't know what A/UX is and why you won't pay that price anyway, then you should probably think twice about posting to threads like these lest you be labeled a troll.
Peace,

Nope. The won't even fit together. I'm pretty sure the 5500 wants 5V EDO RAM (168 pins and about the same length as PC66/PC100/PC133, but electrically and physically incompatible).
Peace,
Drew
Install a floppy drive!
Install a serial port!
Do the VGA hack to use an external display!
Those are real hacks, though, and require some reworking with solder (well, the VGA hack might not, but whatever). The ones you mention aren't really hacks (though installing a 333 MHz G3 isn't exactly...
Bad idea! These things are marginal on cooling, and running it in "clamshell mode" is almost certain to fry something (or cause the video chip to come away from the motherboard as is common on these models).
If you have to, however, take a look at Extended Desktop...
That's annoying, but not necessarily a problem. In fact, I seem to recall that this is what caused the same problem with my 2400c. Anyway, it doesn't respond to Apple-Option-P-R anymore because it stops at the Open Firmware prompt before it loads the Apple ROM and resets the PRAM.
Try this...
Nice!
I don't think there is a way to bypass the requirement for a password when installing some applications. This is probably a good thing because it prevents some unwanted applications from gaining root or admin access to your computer.
Hey, if you don't mind answering, what were the specs...
It sounds to me like your 9600 is dropping into Open Firware on boot with the output directed to a serial port. You could try connecting another Mac and using something like ZTerm to monitor the serial console. You could also try to telnet into it over serial connection. Apple should have...
That's complete bunk.
I've got disks way bigger than that with the OS installed entirely on the second partition.
The OS puts data in the first few blocks of the disk that tells the ROM where to find the rest of the system data. The Mac's ROM contains code to access all the disk space...
Sure, you can run OS 9 and other heavy PowerPC software on that thing, or you can look for vintage software which will run more comfortably. And I would wager that often in that case, there will be 68k versions of the same software that will run better on the 280 than the 2300 because the 2300...
NeXTStep is a mix of BSD UNIXsoftware and the Mach kernel. It's not pure BSD UNIX, but from the end user point of view, that distinction is academic.
Call me crazy, but I don't consider middleware like iTunes to be a part of an operating system. I'll give you Cocoa and Carbon and all the...
OS X cannot run on a 7200.
OS X can run on a 7500 with a CPU upgrade, yes, but the 7500-as-shipped has a PowerPC 601 which cannot run OS X.
Peace,
Drew
