It is possible to use 3400/Kanga Li-Ion batteries with a 5300; you just can't recharge them in a 5300 unless, as iamdigitalman mentioned, you are running System 7.5.2. I have personally run a 5300 from such a battery for several hours (amazing the run-time you can get), but as the 5300 can't...
You know, over the last couple of months I've been watching the price of G4 Macs come way down. It's been really very impressive to see an MDD that a few months ago would have sold for $600 start selling for $200-300, and, IMHO, about time. Picking up a dual G4 at 800MHz or faster is now...
I thought it was the other way around: the 8500 had the extra ICs to drive the composite video out. C- and S-video out was only available on the 8[56]00 and not available on the 7[56]00. The 7x00 and 8x00 both allowed video input, however.
This could also be a 7300 motherboard (which didn't...
Those Canadian import duties and VAT seem philosophically incompatible with the spirit of NAFTA to me. And I hate how things seem to get stuck in customs for so long. It makes trading in old Macs and parts with our Canadian neighbors not worth the effort because of the low value of most of the...
The GeForce4 MX should support dual displays even with only 32MB of RAM. That should work for you, though you'll likely need an ADC->DVI adapter as well...

Thanks for the answer, Tom. I understand the desire to keep people from "revising" their own posts to remove poorly thought out comments.
I only noticed because in Trash80's thread about upgrading his G4, I made reference to a display utility but named it incorrectly. We all know that Google...
Just a note to say that my earlier references to "DisplayConverterX" are incorrect. The correct tool is DisplayConfigX. The memory isn't what it once was...

It looks like a polarizing filter & anti-glare screen to me. These things used to be pretty common (especially among people with poor or degrading eyesight).

Your project hasn't been shot with a poisoned arrow just yet...
For my TV, I have two possible setups. The first connection is VGA which I use when I connect an iBook. My TV comes with a VGA port to connect directly to a PC (or Mac) with a VGA port. Beside that is a mini-stereo port to...
Emphasis mine. Video file was an MPEG-4 rip (1500kbps average bit rate) of a Blackhawk Down DVD with a native resolution of 720x304 scaled up to 1280x720.

The "GLOD" doesn't really happen on the 5300/190. Don't bother checking the PC card cage; it is soldered directly to the motherboard. I would guess it to be related to the PDS card (video out board) not being fully seated. On the 5300, this could also be because the PMU board isn't seated...
I seem to remember that NS 3 was incredibly unstable (type 3, 4, 11 errors all over the place). Am I remember wrong? Was it NS 2 that was bad? Which one practically required Netscape Defrost?
Peace,
Drew
You remind me of that kid "Joey" in the movie "Hackers."
So... Pics yet? How long is that camera going to be MIA before you send out CSAR teams to recover it?
Design studio in Salem, eh? What place is this? I grew up on the North Shore, and my sister works in Salem...
The AppleVision 1710...
The other technology in OS X that relates to video acceleration you might hear about these days is Core Image. There isn't much value in pursuing a video card that will support Core Image (Radeon 9600, GeForce FX 5200, or newer), in my opinion. You'll get much better bang-for-the-buck (and...
Centrises used either a slower 68040 CPU than their Quadra siblings (25 MHz versus 33 MHz) or 68LC040 processors (no FPU) while Quadras (Quadra 605, which was introduced on the day the entire Centris line was killed, is the only exception) used full 68040 processors at higher speeds. IIvx used...
