    Hard Drives

IIRC, that was a problem with specific drives in the 30-40 GB (that size only because that was current in '03/'04) range for the 2400c, 3400c, Kanga, and Wallstreets. OWC had a page about it ages ago, but it's totally MIA now. I gather that all the manufacturers have designs which no longer...

    System 7.5 Password Woes

I think it writes to the driver partition, actually. You might be able to nuke it by booting attaching it in SCSI disk mode and re-writing the disk drivers with Drive Setup or something. There were lots of rumors back in the day about an Apple backdoor for Password Security, but I can't...

Just got a Broken Color Classic! Looking for advice

Washing a logic board is an INCREDIBLY RISKY venture. Consider the possibilities: corrosion, electro-static discharge, heat damage, and physical contact damage are possible outcomes! The least likely method to cause damage would be to douse the board in de-ionized, distilled water, but it...

    Color Classic II

The 580 board is several cm longer than the 575, 550, 520, CC, and CCII. It won't fit without some internal case surgery. Also, the wiring harness must be re-wired to support a different configuration (IDE and other signals are present on the edge connector of the 580 and up boards). And once...

WiFi under OS 9 on Pismo?

No. When you enter an IP address in the Chooser, you are using AppleTalk over IP (AppleTalk encapsulated in IP packets). When you just pick AppleShare Client in the Chooser, you are using raw AppleTalk (EtherTalk to be exact) packets over your ethernet interface. Some vendors don't pass the...

Just got a Broken Color Classic! Looking for advice

Not everything is the fault of capacitors! There's other solid advice to follow before resorting to a risky procedure like washing a motherboard... Checking the PRAM battery is a good one. Peace, Drew

Just got a Broken Color Classic! Looking for advice

If you aren't aware already, CCs use "pseudo-soft power". You have to flip the switch, then press the power button on the keyboard to turn them on. The switch alone doesn't power up a CC. I recently bought a CC for $25 from a seller who didn't understand this and passed off the CC as dead...

    Dual 8500

Are you sure? The last time I ran a Linux (YDL 3) on a dual 604e Mac, the second CPU was not active. Mac OS is required to get that second CPU active. This is in contrast to dual G4 processors which use a different architecture that Linux can enable. A while back, Danamania said the same...
