The LCD is nice, sure. The PowerBook Mustang is somewhere between a 5300 and a 1400. (Interestingly, my copy of "AppleDesign" shows a picture of a Mustang with a PowerBook 5400 production badge.) In fact, it's pretty much the same as a 1400c/133 in a more compact case and without a CD-ROM...
Where did you get that idea?! My 6100 boots 9.0 from CD just fine. And 9.0.4 installs over the top fine, too. You are right about 9.1, though - gotta boot the installer disc on all NuBus PowerMacs.
Peace,
Drew
I've got Gizmo, Hi-Tech, Paper, an Aqua theme, an OpenStep theme, and one called "DSG Theme" around somewhere. I might have some others, too. Let me know if you want me to post them somewhere. I could probably put them up on the http://www.PPCMLA.com/downloads/
Peace,
Drew
Thanks! It's interesting that the rates quoted for trade-in are in £. Are you in the UK? [edit: nevermind, I just saw that your profile says you are in Ireland]
Note for any Classic users out there, this isn't just a standard Disk Copy .img file. It comes as a .rar (why?) which encloses a...
Great tips, Bunsen!
Have you done an in-depth study of where hot air stagnates inside the case?
I've always loved the 6100. It's a great little machine, but the 30/33MHz bus is a killer! One day I'll get around to ordering a crystal and overclocking mine. Having good info on cooling would...
I don't think any [56]500 shipped with 7.6, so finding an OEM disk will be a chore. I do recall hearing about a system enabler (was it 411?) that would allow 7.6 to run on such a machine, but I wonder why you would bother when 7.6.1 is easier to find and is more stable...
Peace,
Drew
Sorry, I'm not trying to argue with you, JRL. I'm just a little irked and annoyed at the hypocrisy displayed by the admins. Control spam? Fine. Delete the user and lock the thread. Even delete the first post in a spam thread if you have to. Controlling a troll should only require a locked...
If that was a troll, then I'm oblivious. It seemed like a reasonable thread to me. What's the point in trolling about cheese!?
I'm not buying that one.
In addition, it's unusual for the admins to delete entire threads. Even the worst flame wars we've had have only resulted in locked...
What happened to the cheese thread in the Lounge? I was interested to learn if any members from Canada had tried a cheese I mentioned (Le Migneron de Charlevoix), and was about to ask that explicitly. But when I returned to post my question, I couldn't find the thread. And searches for...
I have a PowerTower Pro 200 and a PowerCenter 150 (minitower model). I only got the PowerCenter recently (as in within the last few years) from 4seasonphoto. I overclocked the bus on that to 60MHz. Wow! Speedy sucker.
I picked up the PowerTower Pro in 1998. It eventually got configured...
I have the same problem with an iBook G3 (800MHz 32 MB VRAM model). I've got a 9.2.2 installer CD that shipped with the 16MB iBooks, but it hasn't solved the problem for me, either. I think this is a Mac OS ROM issue, and tracking down the right version might be tricky.
If I find a solution...
Right.
If it's not clear to the reader, what I should have said in my post above was that OS X overcomes the problem of no support for slave devices by overriding the built-in ROM once OS X has already booted. So you can use slave devices on the bus, but only after OS X is running. To make a...
You might double check that. I also have a rev A G3 (bought the 266 G3/AV MT model brand new in 1997). It shipped with a 6GB IDE hard drive, ATAPI CD-ROM drive (different IDE channels, both masters), and SCSI zip drive. Some server and BTO models shipped with an ATTO or other re-branded SCSI...
Rev 1 B&W G3 does NOT support booting from slave IDE devices because the on-board ROM for the controller does not understand how to access slave devices. OS X overcomes this because it loads a software "ROM" to handle the IDE controller. If you want to maintain the ability to boot from...
