    RetroBrighted SE/30 System

JDW, I saw your pics in my 68kmla flickr pool's RSS feed last night, and they're incredible! This is really a great job, with stunning results. Thanks a lot for sharing. Your pictures are beautiful, and very well documented.

    PowerBook 145B checkboard

Thanks for your answer! The daughter card has been reseated when I plugged the memory card in. Is there enough room for a spacer between the two? It looked pretty packed in there! And what kind of spacer are you referring to? By the way, I'm posting this reply from said PowerBook, in Netscape...

    PowerBook 145B checkboard

Hi all, I'm the proud owner of a pristine PowerBook 145B, with its stock 4 MB of Ram and 80 MB hard disk, which runs just fine. Today I took the 4 MB Ram card in the dead body of a PB 140 I have lying around, to put it in the 145B and max it out at 8 MB. Everything is fine, but when I cold boot...

SE/30 networking question: How do I connect to OS X machines

All of this, for some reason I can't figure, does not work on french Systems. I tried for years, with every possible combinations of OpenTransport, AppleShare and Chooser, to no avail. Since I read in several places, including this very thread, that it was indeed possible, I assume there is an...

    SE FDHD ROM

Now, this is a rainy afternoon, I just watched my fellow countryman Roger Federer winning his 14th Grand Slam in Paris, and now I've got some time to loose. So I just sucked its ROM out of my SE FDHD, and here you go! I just built a virtual SE FDHD for myself, and it works just fine. Now, at...

    SE FDHD ROM

I bet macgeek knows that very well… but I was suspecting it for quite some time, and now he just admits it himself, his goal is to have the most extensive collection of "virtual vintage Macs" ever! :)

    512K (M0001WP) & PowerBook 5300cs!

Sometimes conquests or liberations can be a bit expensive. My last conquest is of that kind, though in my opinion it was worth it! For about $140, this is what I got: - A Macintosh 512K (model M0001WP, the european 512K) complete with original keyboard and mouse, and an external Apple 400K...

    Quicksilver turned into broken engine.

You've got something in the fan… I wouldn't worry that much, since you can hear the startup chime. What's going on, apart from the noise? Does the computer boot? A QUicksilver case is so easy to open: just try and see what's out of place and makes that noise! You can even start the computer with...

WiFi under OS 9 on Pismo?

Ok, I understand. Thanks for the info!

WiFi under OS 9 on Pismo?

That's a good question. It certainly does over ethernet, since my old Macs are usually connected through a switch which is directly connected to the Airport Extreme base station (over a Devolo Powerline). And I'm a bit confused about which is which in AppleTalk/AppleShare protocols. But I...

WiFi under OS 9 on Pismo?

Ok, strange. I can ping every machine in my network (wifi and wired) from the Pismo in wifi, and I can ping the Pismo from my MBP (in wifi too) and from other OS 9 wired machines. From the Pismo I can connect to my MBP through AppleShare (by entering its IP in the Chooser) and it works, but I...

running 7.1.2 on newer old world pci macs.

Well, my guess is you'd need some kind of "System Enabler" in order for the older System software to know how to handle newer hardware. And good luck finding someone to write such a thing! 8-)

    A/UX Network based install?

You're welcome. According to the FAQ, here are the compatible ones.

    A/UX Network based install?

Beware not all external CD-Rom drives are supported by A/UX! I have an old Toshiba drive in a LaCie enclosure, and it was a total no-go for A/UX. Switched the Toshiba witn an internal Apple CD-600 from another Mac, and everything went fine!

WiFi under OS 9 on Pismo?

192.168.1.x Yes. I'll install Network Tools as soon as I get some time to play with my collection again, and I'll let you know. Thanks for your help!

WiFi under OS 9 on Pismo?

Ok, thanks to all you guys, it finally works. I fired up my orange iBook just to be sure, and it worked just as expected on wifi. So I knew it was software-related on the Pismo, and my network wasn't to blame. So I was lazy and took 15 minutes to make a clean install of OS 9.2.2 on the Pismo...

    Question to everyone

Cool. Actually I have to confess he also got on my own nerves some times…  As with some other members, that's just the way a forum lives! 8-) I just wasn't too comfortable with him being explicitly pointed at in an unrelated thread. But that's ok, thanks for your answer! Ok, maybe I should...

    Question to everyone

I'll be slightly off-topic, and I apologize in advance. But I just had to say I wasn't comfortable with macgeek's statement. I haven't been an active member of this army for a long time, and maybe this particular issue is related to previous stories I'm not aware of, but this is the second time...

Word to the Third to the 5.1

You got it, guys! 8-) Scott, you're 100% right, as you're stating facts. I sure do respect your position. And I sure don't fully endorse piracy. As of today, the Macs I use on a regular basis are all clean from pirated software. Now, my goal wasn't to start another of those ambiguous pro- or...
