The only one I ever snapped was totally on purpose, with a hammer, while building the Macminitosh. Kind of fun, though! 8-)
But I'm always afraid whenever I have to use some force to disconnect the logic board of a compact…
Ok, I received the AUI to RJ-45 adapter yesterday. Tonight I put my Dayna ethernet card in my SE/30, spent some time through the web to find a working image of the Dayna drivers floppy, install it, and gues what...: it works!!!
Actually I'm posting this from my SE/30 running System 7.1 and...
Ahem. That may be more than interesting. Actually there IS another port on the card, it DOES look like a video port, and so I assumed that it WAS a video port. :I
I also own a Radius video card for the SE/30, and the ports look just the same. For now the graphic card is installed in the...
Hi all,
I recently found an Ethernet network card for my SE/30, which is pretty cool. Now, the card only has a BNC connector, which is much less cool. :( To tell the truth, I hadn't heard of BNC or thin coax Ethernet before acquiring this card.
For now, I connect all my Ethernet-less Macs...
So cool!
Ok, you'll always find people who do have more than you do… Greener grass, they say? 8-)
AFAIK, DP1 and DP2 never made it on CD to mainstream developpers. Or did they? I remember seeing a slide in a Steve Jobs' keynote on yYouTube where he showed the roadmap to OS X during the Mac...
Hi all,
Last week was christmas all over again for me! It cost me some money, but I found a big OS X haul on a local auction site:
- Mac OS X Server 1.0 (boxed)
- Mac OS X DP3 (original CD)
- Mac OS X DP4 (original CD)
- Mac OS X Public Beta (original CD)
- Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah (boxed)
-...
It is. And fellow 68kmla soldiers broke my hopes of easy language switching on Newtons a few weeks ago... :-/
By the way, judging by your use of an acute accent on your pseudo, are you a french speaker? Te serais-tu fait avoir comme moi en héritant d'un Newton allemand? :beige:
Ok, thanks all for your answers, and beachycove for the picture. I googled a little bit more, and found (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the speakers originally bundled with the Cube were not the Apple Pro Speakers, though of a very similar (and confusing!) design. With the Cube came...
And as a humorous sidenote, note to self:
Unlike what you read everywhere on the web, you *can* put a 2300c in an original DuoDock, and it works just fine. You only need to push a little harder, but not too much. What you *cannot* do, though, is remove said 2300c from said DuoDock after. :o)...
Hi all,
Ok, I consider myself as a near hardcore macuser (and vintage Macs collector) for a long time, yet yesterday I felt just like a dumb newbie. Not that those two words are supposed to be written together, but still.
I do own a well working Cube. I bought it cheap some years ago, from a...
Wow, beachycove, what a complete answer! Thanks a lot to both of you.
Actually last night I took some time to test those babies, and it seems like it's Christmas all over again!
Look: both the 230 and the 2300c are in pristine cosmetic condition. And the 2300c that was said to have a defective...
Hey!
My car's trunk is quite full this morning... I got a working (boxed!) Duo 230 with all its accessories (but sadly without original disks and manuals), a working DuoDock for it (yellowed...), and a said non-functional Duo 2300. I haven't got a chance to play with those, but I got hope the...
The battery most certainly has bulged. I had bulged (and obviously dead) batteries in all my 1xx conquests. To force the door to slide, +1 for the ruler tip above. Then I'd pull! 8-)
If no success, you can easily open the PowerBook and remove the top case (three screws under the PowerBook)...
I asked that question in the Newton section, and it seems it isn't possible without switching the socketed ROM's from a french or english Newton. Those two were hard enough to find and expensive, so obviously I won't try to find another one just for parts. Still, I learned german for about ten...
Ok, now that's a clear answer, although not the one I hoped! :-/
And fortunately, it's a genuine german Newton, not a schwyzerdütsch version, which would be way worse! 8-)
Thanks for the reply!
I still haven't taken the time to get to know those babies… So excuse me if the question sounds dumb, but by "changing the ROMs" do you simply mean a firmware change through a full reset, or some kind of physical chip switch as in an old Mac?
Hi!
I'm pretty much new to the Newton world, since my latest conquest involved a MP 120 and a MP 2000 upgraded to 2100. Those are my first Newton.
The 120 is in german. I don't have the original software, sadly, nor the connection software to install on a classic Mac. I'll certainly find those...
