Did you see that post over at TUAW?
I find it pretty impressive and really cool that a ][ is still in regular use to drive that industrial machine... 8-)
Extended II!!!
I still use mine daily with my MacBook Pro at home through an ADB-USB adapter (kind of a generic iMate hub-style). I just love its sound! But for actual typing, my all-time favorite is the PowerBook 1400 keyboard.
Hi techknight, and thanks a lot for that project. I followed the beginning of the discussion in the other thread, and I'm very interested in it! I won't be of any help for technical stuff, though. But if and when the project leads to a product, I'll have a bunch of early PowerBooks with failing...
Yes, it is. There's a pass-through ADB cable that you can see on the picture. It's really a neat piece of hardware. The design is not bad (PowerBook gray, frog-like stripes), it's compact and the only cables I have hanging behind my 100 as of now are its power brick and the ethernet cable.
Thanks a lot for your replies! Sorry, long time since my last visit around here. My PowerBook 100 running pomme-s.ch has now been online non-stop for more than a week, and it runs fine. It is helped by a lime iBook running Tiger which does the dynmaic DNS updates.
Thank you very much for that...
Thanks register!
Unfortunately a Google search with "powerbook veraeusser" doesn't give significant results, apart from the topic you link to.
Anyway, the server works but my MBP don't seem to properly update my external IP to zoneedit anymore. So it's unreachable for a couple of days.
You're supposing right! Actually System 7 would be great, so my PowerBook 100 could host the site and update the IP address at the same time. But I somehow doubt such software exist for 7. Anyway, who knows?
But something running on 8.6+ would be fine. I'm thinking of hosting the images and...
Does anybody know where to find those (or the equivalent Acard 7720U) for cheap, or not so expensive? The Acard is still sold for around $150. Some appear on eBay from time to time, but also very expensive.
I've been looking for a long time for one, or even better for a 2.5'' SCSI-CF adapter...
Does anybody know of a dynamic DNS client updater software for services like dyndns.org, zoneedit.com and such?
I've googled quite a bit to no avail, but search terms are so generic they return a lot of irrelevant stuff.
My router is working with dyndns, but I'm using zoneedit for my new web...
Hi all,
I'd like to share the beginnings of my latest project with you, namely the website http://www.pomme-s.ch, hosted on my PowerBook 100. The 100 has 6 Mb of RAM and a 80 Mb hard disk. It runs a stripped down US System 7.0.1 with the bare essentials, and the server soft is Machttp 2.6.1. To...
It certainly will! Concorde, as a comfort rule you'd have to transfer anything stuffed from Snow Leopard (or any modern OS) to your vintage Mac prior to unstuff/mount/install.
I could eventually send you a copy of the discs by mail, but I initially planned to upload a disc image of the CD...
It is a color screen, but it is WAY smaller than a Newton screen. Nothing to compare!
And by the way, I confirm that it does suck batteries like mad. Was it the same 14 years ago? Is it due to some aging components? Don't know.
Hey, your post made me want to own one of these pretty badly to add to my collection.
Well, actually I've wanted one for a long time, but never could find one to buy. I searched eBay after seeing your post, and boom! There was a couple of them (there still is, if anyone interested). I got mine...
I also have an Asante Micro EN/SC designed for PowerBooks, but my guess is it's the same unit with a different design. Mine takes its power from an ADB port, but can also take 5V DC 250mA - ( + from a standard power brick if needed. You shouldn't be far from truth with a 5V brick!
I found that...
Oh, it does run just fine! A clean NeXTSTEP 3.3 install was done by the seller the day before I picked it up. It's just the CRT that's nearly shot, so the image is bad, but still usable. I tested it with a 17'' Dell LCD, and it's just fine!
The next rainy sundy I'll try and connect it to my...
Last week I scored some beautiful Black hardware:
- NeXTstation TurboColor, with SoundBox ADB, and ADB keyboard and mouse, pristine.
- NeXT MegaPixel 17'' display, pristine cosmetic, but nearly dead tube: awful picture.
- NeXT laser printer, said to be non working (haven't tested yet)
- NeXT...
