I bought a used Deathstar back in the day to use as a scratch disk for copying DVDs on my B&W G3. It made quite a noisy and nasty racket but kept going for a looooonnngg time.

Overclock LC475/P475/Q605 without soldering or spicy-o-clock

Oh, for me 42-43MHz is plenty and amazing for not having to use spicy-o-clock, particular capacitors, bodge wires, and ecetera. I need to get it recapped at some point, but I probably won't bother replacing the 88920. Amazing gains with it, as is. High resolutions work and it handles all my...

Overclock LC475/P475/Q605 without soldering or spicy-o-clock

So, basically no matter how high you set your wanted frequency it just tops out at what that 88920 can do? Fiddling around with mine tonight and was testing how high I can get. At 42MHz right now, going by benchmarks compared to my 475 at its "stock" 33MHz and such.

That definitely doesn't look stock, most likely modified. It'd be interesting to see what's on the inside.

    New LC475

Remember there's a soft-oveclocking option now. I took my ole LC040 up to 40MHz with it.

Overclock LC475/P475/Q605 without soldering or spicy-o-clock

I had an instance where it showed it booted at 40 but benchmarks showed it was really only running at 33MHz. This only happened to be me once (the first time I booted up after benchmarking it at 40Mhz). It might have just been an issue with the program/extension thingie. Its since ran at...

Sonnet Encore ZIF G4 CPU Upgrade - G3 B&W jumper setting

I think the 66MHz drop threw a lot of B&W G3/Yikes people off of buying it. I wish there were more floating about. I remember a dual ZIF daystar adapter that popped up one time (some others probably remember it too) for a good grand. It had been... modified, if an unprofessional manner. Such...

Sonnet Encore ZIF G4 CPU Upgrade - G3 B&W jumper setting

Where there's a will, there's a way. There is definitely some oddity that Sonnet didn't feel was worth fixing (despite handicapping the faster B&W/Yikes with a 33% slower bus). Still glad they released this upgrade, although I went with the 750GX for my B&W back in the day (perfectly fine in...

Sonnet Encore ZIF G4 CPU Upgrade - G3 B&W jumper setting

Yes, yes I did. It was from this board too. But I found this one too https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/do-any-g4-zif-upgrades-run-100mhz-bus.39573/ Did they have some extra logic on the boards, or an fpga?

Sonnet Encore ZIF G4 CPU Upgrade - G3 B&W jumper setting

This thread mentions something about it: "This is probably because those cards use PLDs/FPGAs to interface the processor to the older bus, and they apparently can't operate at 100MHz." Someone more knowledgable might have to chime in with what the reasoning was.

    Help Identifying These Video Cards

I mean the 9200 Mac Edition was a good OS X card for the PCI macs (or any Mac with PCI). I remember it being very speedy, especially when you enabled Quartz 2D Extreme. The big amount of VRAM was good for that too.

Overclock LC475/P475/Q605 without soldering or spicy-o-clock

Yeah, my 475 was resistor-swapped to 33MHz. It runs fine from the initial benchmarking I did. I was honestly surprised. Hopefully that LC040 runs a little cooler too, compared to a full 040 at 40MHz. Still just a smidge below a 840av, though, ughh.

Awesome, just awesome. Ya'll put a smile on my stressed face. The 475 does have nice and speedy video.

    PPC750GX vs. PPC750GL?

I know the 750GX I had for a good while in my B&W G3 could clock to 1.2GHz. I thought initially it ran at 800MHz without setting the PLL in software. I know the software had an option to do 'power-saving' by clocking down to 500MHz and then up to full speed depending on processor usage.
