Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I had a Simasimac SE/30 a few weeks back and I tried everything under the sun to try and get it to boot. In the end I swapped out the ROM for a Rom-inator II from my IIci and that fixed my issue. Granted it seems you are getting a bit of a different issue than my Simasimac but it is still worth...
I just backed up my physical 80MB SCSI drive on my SE/30. Here is what I did:
1. Download a blank 2GB image from the premade ones linked on the BlueSCSI site. (https://mega.nz/folder/8hA3AQCJ#pWUq92L70yDXlogy9lk5Dg)
2. Extract and copy the blank 2GB image to an SD card after formatting the SD...
Hello Smrieck551,
Yup, the Analog Board and Sony PSU were recapped by myself. I thought that would help in the longevity of the overall system but I guess anything can happen at any time.
Lesson learned and noted about part machines. Might have to start thinking about that in the near future...
I did see that one but the bit of build up on the flyback makes me nervous that it too is going out soon. I've circled the concerned area:
Is that something to be concerned about? Looks like some sort of corrosion to me.
What do you think?
Well, my worse nightmare came true yesterday. I was using my SE FDHD playing some Arkanoid and all of a sudden the screen just went blank and smoke started pouring out of the fan. I immediately turned it off and opened the case to find the Flyback had done its last task of its life. I briefly...
In a pinch, you can use some tape to fool the drive into thinking the 1.44mb floppy is a 720k but it is a waste if you ask me and doesn't always work. For example my 486 PC does not like it when I try and use a 1.44 as a 720k with the tape method but my windows 98 P4 could care less. I only...
Hello Muirium,
I have ordered a few cap kits from console5, never had any issues at all. I recently purchased the SE/30 kit, the same one you posted and it came with 4 SMD caps that were not tantalum capacitors. One or two for the audio circuit and another two by the power connector on the...
Hey Imartu,
This second SE FDHD of mine is straight out of HELL! I got the Transistors and when I went to test the drive my Flyback shorted out and I didn't want to damage anything else so I left it there in the bench with my ego lol. When I get home tonight I will test the drive with my...
Hello Butch,
I do not believe that would be the cause. The PRAM battery assists in holding some basic information like clock data and boot device but once the MAC is running, it will not change those settings as the chips are powered up. If completely powering off and unplugging for a bit, then...
Hello Butch,
You need to adjust the centering rings on the yoke. Look at page 62 on the below PDF:
https://www.applerepairmanuals.com/the_manuals_are_in_here/Macintosh_Plus.pdf
I did this to my SE FDHD and it worked like a charm.
On the slow startup when warm, I have no idea my friend, that...
Seems like the Low End Mac page shows your same issues and they ended up upgrading the MB to a LC III. Unfortunately you might have limited options with your current setup.
If I were you I would leave things as is and maybe look for an LC III as a new project to tinker with.
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased my second SE FDHD for $45 + shipping on the fleebay (Yes I have a problem). It had a dead tube but I had one laying around hence why I bought it. After replacing the tube I tried to test the rest of the machine and noticed the floppy drive continuously runs...
I have Slaton memory in my IIci and they work perfectly; I personally love the build quality. I ordered a set from Memory Masters and received a bed set, they were able to replace them and have not had any issues with them to date. Both are great options if you ask me.
All mechanical drives will fail, its not a matter of if but a matter of when. The when depends on use and handling as well as storage. Your Fireball is no exemption and if you value the data on the drive, you should back it up, not because it will fail tomorrow but simply because it will one day...
Yup, time for a BlueSCSI or similar solid state solution. I have only had two HDD's work when I got my MAC's of like 6 machines. One worked enough to boot into OS 7.1 and show the persons NSFW background but did not boot far enough to get any desktop icons; after that it never booted again. My...
MC68030 specs show max operating temperature of 70C which is close to 160F. You should be good to go with just a heatsink but make sure you have a little bit of airflow in the case to keep things in check.
