FYI, my wife won a new (modern, 2016) laser printer at an office party a few months ago. It was made by Lexmark (I can get the exact model if interested). Anyway, it's an awesome printer supporting networking (wired) and USB. But what really surprised me is that it also had an old-school an...
I'm certainly no expert in things 68K Mac, but from what I've read, couldn't this memory upgrade be "sanctioned" from Apple? IIRC, Apple offered a $995 upgrade kit for 128K to 512K Macs.
Also, I remember reading that even the very first 128K Macs had support for 19 address lines on the board...
Hmmm. That's an idea. I had thought about filling it with epoxy, sanding and painting the case.
Seriously, since this thing is so yellowed, it might be a good candidate for painting. If I could find the original color. However, my painting skills are not that great.
I'm going to...
I just got a 512K Mac with keyboard, mouse, external floppy and carrying case for $60. I'm very excited. :-)
Other than having SEVERE yellowing, there's a 1" or so crack wrapping around the top-right of the case. On the front bezel (not the main case).
So, any ideas on how to fix that? I...
When I boot my SE/30, I get a screen with horizontal stripes. Nothing else. No beeps, either.
First thing I did was recap the logic board. I believe I did a good job but I can double check (even though I've triple checked already).
Tonight I replaced UE8 (74LS166) with a new one. Actually...
@Alex
Yes, I mean the internal metal frame that holds the motherboard, drive cage, etc. You can't see from the pics above but trust me when I say it was beyond repair. I mean, I guess it technically could be rebuilt. But at least half of it or more was rusted all the way through. I don't...
Those are both good ideas.
Finding an LCD screen would be great because that opens a lot of doors for some cool stuff like an FPGA Mac Classic. Too bad they never made a 15" widescreen Mac Classic back in the day so that I could use this VGA monitor I have. But then the Mac would be "T"...
That's pretty much what I've done. I'm going to assume the CRT is toast and just recycle it. The actual case could still be used. I'm going to clean it up a bit. The floppy drive might be OK. It looks fine and of course, the cables look good.
The internal frame is in the trash. I didn't...
OOOHHHH!!!!! Yeah, I think you're right!
In fact, when I opened the case, I saw a clear piece of glass that looked like a broken LED. In fact, I thought it was an LED but now that I think about it, there are no LED's that shape in the Mac. So that had to be it.
DANG. So that CRT is worthless?
It looks like I have am empty Mac Classic case. The inside frame was corroded beyond repair. So it's literally the front panel and back case.
So, other than an aquarium, what do you guys recommend I do with that case? I never get into the whole emulator or RPi setup but since the case is...
Oh. You mean that large anode red wire? When I get home I will take some more pics of the tube. Sorry, I'm no expert on things CRT. :)
Assuming it truly is gone forever, I guess the best thing to do with it is e-cycle it. But that would break my heart. lol
I really like the 8-bit Guy's show (and I've been a Patreon donor for him too) but people really do need to remember that not everything he says is accurate or highly scientific. Granted, I don't have my own show with lots of fans so take what I say with a grain of salt. :)
I'm sure he's...
Not sure I follow. I have the little square board that plugs into the that glass tube. The one with the pins sticking out. Is that the board you're talking about? It's currently soldered (via wires) to the main analog board.
I thought you can just plug that board back in? It was just...
OK, so back in January (2017) I bought a Macintosh Classic on eBay for $12.75. Picture showed a checkerboard screen. But the user said "for parts". So I thought for $12.75 (and only $12 to ship!) what the heck...
So I get the Mac and it was in rough shape. The seller actually just put it in...
I know this topic comes up a lot. But my SE/30 is having issues.
Known problems:
1) Horizontal stripes (nothing else)
2) No audio at all
3) Heavily corroded.
Here is what I've done:
1) Cleaned as much green corrosion as I possibly could with vinegar, scrubbing, IPA, etc. No noticeable...
