Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Not sure what you consider "horrifically" loud, but I assume it's a 20mb miniscribe in there, and they are loud. Very loud. Stupidly loud.
A floppy drive is whispering quit compared to a miniscribe 🤣🤣
There is already a fair amount of production, guy called OneGeekArmy, operating out of Belgium!
Not sure the demand is there to warrant "mass" production though, it is a bit of a nich market.
Most other SCSI emulators target a wider audience of vintage machines, the Blue SCSI is basically...
So absolutely everything seems to be working.
40MB Quantum Drive, check.
The Floppy works just fine, will need a clean-up and lubrication, it ejects properly but you can hear the little motor straining a bit against the dried up grease.
External SCSI port works correct, my BlueSCSI shows up just...
And I have a winner!!! Finally!!!
After the big cleanup, everything looked so much to be in good shape, I decided to give the board a go before the recap.
Indeed, the troublesome part are the via's.
If you loose continuity between the layers, the board becomes virtually irrepairable afaik, unless you're lucky and the all the damaged via's are between the 2 outer layers only.
I think the original board consists of 6 layers!
With my last few drops of IPA I cleaned (verly lightly) the area around C3/C4/C5/C6 where most of the electrolyte fuzz has seemed to originated from, and to me that does not look perfect, but definitely not too bad at all!

After the little clean-up:
As described in this thread, I seem to be coming across plenty SE/30's which the sellers all assume to be working, just because the CRT turns on...
I already got myself a battery bombed one, of which I make no illusions as to ever see it working. Did get get me a bunch of working spares though...

The horizontal "squeezes" is normally solved by a recap of the analog board...
My SE had a bit of a "wobbly" image, and that got resolved after the recap!
Good luck!
I am the lucky owner of a working (recapped) non-back-lit one.
Unfortunately I am having trouble finding a reasonable priced 8MB expansion card, so stuck at 1MB, so system 6.08 and a bunch of software saying it needs more memory to run...
I saw the asking price, did it actually go...
It's the via's I'm worried about!
Some traces to repair is doable, as is the replacing of the rtc and or ic's....
Probably a fair bit over my skill level...
Aaargh, what is it with people advertising stuff as "working", when it doesn't? At least it was only a 10 min. drive (why I didn't push for foto's etc before driving out).
Showed up, plugged it in, and booted into horizontal bars on the screen.
Asked him if he would let me open it up, which he...
Would love to have a clear acrilyc case for the SE (or hopefully soon to be owned SE/30).
Unfortunately only the hazy are still available, and looks like @maceffects has no plans on a new production run of crystal clear ones...
