    Pre-production Macintosh Classic

The question is: would you rather have a clear Mac, or a Delorean?

    Compu's Conquests

Just picked up 6 LC boards and an SE/30 board from tedhodges. They are mostly to get more experience with my hot air station, but I plan to pass on what I don't use. Anyway, one of the boards looks different from the rest. No model labeling? Hmm...

    Compu's Conquests

Some gentle scrubbing with a wire brush removed most of the grime. Capacitors should be here in a few days.

I put it in the sink with hot water and some ammonia mixed in and let it sit for a minute or two. Will be working on the caps and goo soon!

I never did bathe it in vinegar, but tried scrubbing contacts with acetone. Should I try vinegar next?

    Compu's Conquests

I have a hot air station. I might pull up one or two of the chips and see if I can scrape or sand the corrosion off.

Even if I get it working, the corrosion on the pins concerns me. Would it keep eating away at the pins until the chip fell off or didn't make electrical connection?

    Compu's Conquests

Why does it look like a lost cause? Too corroded? It at least boots to the simasimac screen, so it works to some degree..?

    Compu's Conquests

It's starting to look more hopeful than what I began with. The question now is how to remove the trace amounts of corrosion? Acetone didn't help much. And if I should even bother trying to restore the frame... Looks like it's going straight to the scrapyard. I will probably be buying a...

    Compu's Conquests

Apparently a little haggling on eBay will net you this for $60 shipped. How it still boots even to the simasimac screen is beyond me. I guess that means it shouldn't be *too* hard to repair. How do you clean this up anyway? Just soap and water like the rest of them? And guess what fell out...

    Classic II Motherboard issues

I don't know how to check bus to RAM or the EGRET chip, nor can I find schematics. I can do all of this with a DMM right?

    Classic II Motherboard issues

It's never worked since day 1. I have removed and cleaned and reflowed the RAM and EGRET chip, as well as a few corroded voltage regulators. I think I might have fried a ROM but don't have any spares to test with unfortunately. Any pointers?

Nice find! I like the way the Apple logo burns/yellows into the plastic.

    Compu's Conquests

Found this at an estate sale for $50, they originally wanted $175. The big companies that run estate sales usually way overprice stuff. The price tag, and this being buried in the corner behind a bunch of other stuff turned people away for the 3 days they had the sale, so I went 30 minutes until...
