Oh and another thing I've been wondering about. Timing on 68k Macs seems to be done either through Time Manager or the vblank callback vector, but the vblank rate is not guaranteed to be 60Hz, is it? Some Mac monitors ran at 66-67Hz, for example. How would I detect the nominal vblank rate?
I see. Guess I'll have to do a lot of Gestalt checking and have custom code for Macs before SE, and after SE. :ROFLMAO: But one step at the time. I'll target my first version for Macintosh SE, and if it will work as expected, I'll add some more flexibility (like using 1 Sound Manager voice on...
Oh neat, but how would I tell Sound Manager to stop writing to it, so that I have full control? Also, do you know the linear addresses for these buffers?
How can I output samples to the sound chip on a Macintosh SE without using Sound Manager? I assume the sound buffer in RAM is not mapped directly to the hardware, but is instead set up and handled by Sound Manager itself?
The reason I want to skip Sound Manager entirely is to create as little...
diskcopystrip is a simple tool I wrote that strips all Disk Copy data (header and tags) from Macintosh floppy disk images.
I know this is not a tool for 68k macs, and as such is maybe not suitable for this sub-forum, but I'll give it a go. I thought it could help others since it was a huge time...
Not really a book, but I really recommend giving THINK Reference a try. That software is a gold mine for looking up system/toolbox functions to see what they do, the input parameters and so on.
I'm sure there exists a book with this kind of information as well.
Could it simply be that this is from burn-in? If you turn off the machine and look at the screen in bright light, do you see any spots with darker colors?
Sorry for bumping a really old thread, but have anyone actually tried this? I have a PLCC44 SWIM from a Macintosh IIsi, and I would like to try and hack it onto a DIP28 socket, for use in a Macintosh SE. Maybe we could design a simple adapter board, with a DIP28 layout and a PLCC44 socket?
Yes, a lot of broken pads. Anyway, I already went ahead and forcefully scrapped components from the board.
Took the SWIM out, in case it's possible to manually re-wire it to a DIP28 socket so that I can use it in my Macintosh SE (together with FDHD ROMs).
I'm not sure if it would be compatible...
I have a Macintosh IIsi that would give the sad mac chime since it had severe issues with onboard RAM (bank A), so I desoldered the RAM chips and their bus transceivers (74ALS245AD) as they were corroded anyway. The board now chimes and boots from floppy or HDD, but I get a black screen. It...
Just desoldered ALL the electrolytic caps on the analog board and in the PSU, and measured them. ESR was low, and capacitance was well within tolerance.
Found one 1µF 50v cap in the PSU that had 2 ohm ESR, so I replaced it with a Nichicon (low ESR series) that had 0.5 ohm ESR. Also removed the...
The IIsi is a nice machine, and by the cost of a 50MHz oscillator you can safely overclock it from 20 to 25MHz. The logic on the machine was actually designed for 25MHz [citation needed], but Apple decided to underclock it to 20MHz before production so that it wouldn't compete with the IIci. I...
I see, but I want to set it up locally on the machine to make sure everything is optimal. I tried to format it with Apple HD SC Setup instead of partitioning it, now and I got an "address error" crash. I ran a full RAM test on this thing just now, and it passed. Also ran a full disk test with...
Hm... Having some issues. I installed a BlueSCSI v2 Desktop with its latest firmware, and I made a 1GB disk image on ID0.
I made some System 6.0.7 Norwegian 800K floppies, booted the Utilities 1 disk to partition the drive with Apple HD SC Setup.
Installed the OS, and when I reboot, it says that...
