    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

Yes I'm aware that it would make the most sense to test the US version first, but I'm curious about this and I have a lot of time, so it doesn't hurt to try.

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

I want a Norwegian keyboard layout and Norwegian date/time format, I thought it was maybe included with the international version?

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

Yup, quite silly! I'm going to give System 7.1 Z-International + System Update 3.0 a try, with the GemStart 3.0 drivers + Compact Virtual 3.0.2. So far that driver seems more reliable than the Mobius ones to me, and I think you don't need the Mobius sound fix extension (which is limited to...

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

    Ohhh!

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

Ok so we use the exact same copy, so that's not the issue. Maybe you had the same problem as me, that HDD swapping was used instead of addressing the real physical RAM. This would naturally slow down RAM performance a lot. Another person has the same problem here (accelerator card in first...

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

Yup, Mobius driver (without Virtual) mentions 16MB of onboard RAM. Btw, have you blocked me when it comes to PMs? I've sent a couple the last days, and I don't get a reply. Was wondering where you got your Compact Virtual from.

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

I was so hopeful. Compact Virtual even selected Gemini per default now under installation. Then reboot. And.. Same problem! How frustrating! Could it be something as stupid as Compact Virtual not being compatible with Norwegian System 7.0.1?

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

Ok, I see. By the way, I removed Compact Virtual and all the Mobius stuff, installed the TransWarp driver. That driver reports 4MB RAM and no MMU (and ROM version 630, interestingly enough). If I install Compact Virtual with the TransWarp option on top of this, suddenly the TransWarp driver...

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

Removed the FPU now, and set the 2-waitstate jumper. Same symptoms... This also happened at times when I ran 4MB on the Mobius instead of 16MB.

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

Yes, I did set the memory jumper. Mobius 030 control panel shows: On boad: 16384 k Logic board: 4096 k Protected: 16318 k Video buffers: 64 k Sometimes on a cold boot, it shows garbage instead of numbers here, and I have to shut the machine off and back on (reset doesn't help). Sometimes the...

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

I got a cracked version of Compact Virtual 3.0.2 from a site, ran the installer and selected Mobius SE FPD/TPD. Running System 7.0.1 Norwegian, without the Tune-Up update.

    Mobius 030 + 16MB RAM

I have 16MB of physical RAM (4x4MB) installed on my Mobius 030, and I have some questions about Connectix Compact Virtual 3.0.2: 1) When I set application memory above 4MB, will it also use the 4MB of (slow) RAM that is installed on my Macintosh SE motherboard? I don't want that RAM to be used...

Outputting samples to the Mac SE sound chip without using Sound Manager

Here's my mixer. Sample end has to be tested for every output sample (for end/data swapping). a0 = Points to signed 16-bit mix buffer a1 = Points to current sample data a2 = Points to volume LUT, pre-aligned for current voice volume a3 = Sample end point for next cycle (not an address) a4 =...

Outputting samples to the Mac SE sound chip without using Sound Manager

It's four 8-bit PCM voices with free pitch, volume between 0..64, and loop and 'no loop' mode. Also, whenever a sample has reached its end (either 'end of sample' or loopEnd point), it will update the new sampleData and sampleEnd registers. This is needed for maximum compatibility. I basically...

Outputting samples to the Mac SE sound chip without using Sound Manager

I just find it odd because it doesn't mean it's pure vblank timing at all.

Outputting samples to the Mac SE sound chip without using Sound Manager

It's ok. We're in 2023, it makes sense to not assume genders. :) I've always been a guy though.

Outputting samples to the Mac SE sound chip without using Sound Manager

I don't really need to sync with vblank for timing, but it just sounded convenient and simple. I guess I can just setup a 50Hz (or any arbitrary value) timer with Time Manager instead. Good to know that vblank callback is 60Hz regardless of the actual vblank rate, though. Pretty strange, but I...

Outputting samples to the Mac SE sound chip without using Sound Manager

I'm already giving up on 68000 support. Mixing four voices at 22254.54Hz with my asm code probably takes up more than 80% of the CPU time on a 68000 8MHz, I don't really have room for another stage (buffer copying) now that I think about it. So I'm going to target 68020+ and use one Sound...

Outputting samples to the Mac SE sound chip without using Sound Manager

That I have. ;) Oh well. At least 68020 has much better addressing modes, and full-speed 32-bit ALU operations. A bit more comfortable.

Outputting samples to the Mac SE sound chip without using Sound Manager

Sorry for triple-posting, but I just found out that the sound buffer is 370 bytes long (ignoring the floppy bytes), and that this whole buffer is written to the sound chip per frame. Now my problem is, I would have to play a racing game where I make sure to have my bytes written in time before...
