Only use a correct voltage adapter. Think its what above said, 7.5V 1.5A. Anything higher will cook it.

I can kind of answer the rarity part. I think I sold a boxed, NOS G4 style display for a couple hundred a few years ago. Would think the G3 one is around the same, and that was NOS.

Oops, sorry, missed that. There might be cap goo stuck under some chips still? Someone else may have another suggestion. Chances are a bad ROM would cause it to not boot reliably. If it is a socketed ROM, you can try reseating.

Recap first then see what happens. Hopefully its salvageable, the Classics have really bad cap leakage. Same with the analog. If you don't want to do it yourself, I can recommend Thomas from Amiga of Rochester.
