I'd agree it could be a bad PSU. They don't always share the same symptoms. For instance, when mine went, the screen would become wavy and there were random errors thrown out. Luckily you have a Sony, so if it is faulty, new caps should save it.
For recapping, if you want reliable 24/7 operation, definitely recap or replace the power supply. If the logic board is all tantalum, don't worry about it.
I wonder what speed vram the Quadra requires? I think there were two different speed vrams made?
(Sorry misread a little). Replace any...
You'll learn in time, NEVER rush into anything! Take your time... Unless it's something so absolutely rare you'll never find another.
Hope it's in one piece :)
I remember I got my 80lb G3 molar shipped, that arrived safely. But from a different country is a different story.
Got it, so pretty much same product different name? I noticed both boards look a little different, guessing the GX adds a few other things versus the IPA.
Recently got a SuperMac Thunder 24 from a member on here with two add on daughter cards. Would like some clarification on what the difference of the two daughtercards is?
The first is a SuperMac Image Processing Accelerator. The second says GX on it.
According to LEM, the GX one adds "twin...
For those more familiar with HyperCard, do I have to "tell" the stack where to find the XCMDs? The errors I am getting are saying the stack doesnt know what to do with any command that has to do with MacTCP. The MacTCP examples kind of work with no errors. Looking through the example stacks...
It's weld on 2354. Got mine off Amazon. Use a very very very small amount on the inside of the crack. Almost an impossibly small amount. It goes a long way. Look with the search function and you'll see some more info on it.
Not sure on removing the old glue.
There's a good plastic solvent out there, I think it's weld on brand. I and a few others have used it. It literally melts the plastic together. If you're interested I can get the product number. It will fix that crack once and for all!
Looks like someone already has these discs uploaded. https://www.macintoshrepository.org/20915-691-3562-a-powerbook-g4-software-restore-3-cd-set-mac-os-v10-1-4-v9-2-2-disc-v1-0-2002-cd-
I'd try that 9.2.2 installer and see what happens.
Looks like I've got a variety. Got the original G4 OS X gray 10.1.4 CD, colored OS X 10.2 CD set, gray OS X 10.2 Developer Tools, gray 10.1.4 and 9.2.2 software restore set, gray G4 application CD, official G4 hardware test CD, and the original gray 9.2.2 CD (Thought it was earlier!). I'll check...
I am not sure where to post this, but found a site advertising their school styled Hypercard stack! It is still up! Have not tried downloading the demo. Know it isn't very useful, but my search has not brought up a good thread for interesting old style sites (besides this one)...
All I know is that I used the original PB G4 OS 9 install CD. Not sure what other secrets it installed. Maybe there's a lot of dust inside? I think mine is running 9.0 or 9.1, not 9.2.2.
I think mine is an 867 as well. I don't notice the fans come on unless I have a few things open in Photoshop, and it stays warmish, never hot. Mine only has OS 9 on it.
