I use 10.4.11 on mine... but, I have never tried to go "up" from there..
I have the capability to try to go to 10.5, Just don't see a good reason to do so.
Try it if you have it, If not LMK and I believe that I could try for you!

The basic 1400 is indeed sluggish.
Good place to have ram doubler, speed doubler etc...
Besides the obvious.... max out the physical ram, which is still precious little ram!!

I need someone who has the cisco software for the aironet 340/350 pci card.
Cisco apparently has No regard for Mac stuff... I sent them a "note" to express my distaste... but the cowardly pricks don't read e-mails... Or don't speak my language...I have rarely been so frustrated by a website...
Because they were cheaper I use a pcmcia adapter.
The 1400 will boot from it no problem... even w/o a hdd installed. actually the wallstreet does also, but none after that that I am aware of.

FWIW the 1400 can indeed run MKLinux, and therefore About any older linux PPC distro.
I have personally installed Debian Sarge, on the very 1400 I am on now [with sonnet G3 466 cpu] No more problem than putting it onto a non g3 1400... No Less Problem either.
I am now running , Happily, OS9.1...

The Power "brick" from a powerbook 1400, interchanges w/ the smaller "brick" from a PBG3, interchanges w/ the "Yo-Yo" from a clamshell i-Book.
Gotta go to a later i-Book [dual usb] or a PBG4 to get to a plug w/ a smaller diameter shield, as well as a smaller "plug"...
Was looking for some info. on linux for "old world" macs... Found Classilla..
Then found this place!
Posting right now wirelessly on my powerbook 1400, which I haven't used in a few years!!
OS9.1 and Classilla.... How Kool!
I am cheating a bit... in that this 1400 has a sonnet 466, or...
