    Documenting my IIfx repair

As I said Thursday, my Classic died the same day as its creator. When I opened it to see if it was a simple matter of cleaning the motherboard, I found one badly-corroded battery and chassis inside. Surprisingly, the Classic had worked just a day prior, when I was doing some software tinkering...

Fully boxed G4 Cube and Monitor

Wow, makes me wonder what mine would go for. I maxed the RAM at 1.5gb, put in a 160gb hard drive and modded a fanless GeForce 6600 256mb card.

    First conquest in a while

Thanks, Bunsen. Hopefully I'll have some time as the weather gets colder to start on some of my many Mac-related projects.

    First conquest in a while

Rescued a Sawtooth G4/500DP and a Quicksilver 867mhz G4 from my employer when they were bought out by a bigger company. I now work for the other company and am still working on rescuing a G4 Mini and maybe a G5 or two. Unfortunately the Quicksilver has a bad power supply. It won't turn on at...

    Just a heads-up

Thanks trag, that's good news. I bought a bunch of RAM off a guy on craigslist for super cheap several months ago, but didn't realize it was EDO until I got it home. Now I can throw some of the 32mb modules in and see what happens :)

    Just a heads-up

Hmm... according to OWC, my Q840AV can use 72-pin EDO RAM. Has anyone tried using EDO RAM in a Quadra? Also, I see they have 64mb 72pin SIMMs. I wonder if I can put four in the 840AV and get 256mb?

Holy of Holies -- Quadra 840AV!

I did get it, and it looks great. Not a lot of yellowing, either. Shipped in an original Power Mac 8100/80 box with styrofoam. Kinda neat to have that, too. The floppy drive bezel was taped on, since the little tabs on the bezel were broken on one side. The bottom blank drive bay bezel was also...

Holy of Holies -- Quadra 840AV!

Well I got a bunch of memory on craigslist the other day for REALLY cheap. Guaranteed to work or my money back. They're 72pin 60ns SIMMs, but they're EDO, and I wanted to make sure they'll work in the Quadra. Is that the case?

Holy of Holies -- Quadra 840AV!

I think it'd be pretty much like beachycove said -- you'd do it just to say you did. :) If I ever come across some nice cheap 128mb sticks, I'll certainly give it a whirl, just for S&Gs. As for now, I think I'll just go to 128 and leave it at that. There's an ad on my local craigslist for...

Holy of Holies -- Quadra 840AV!

An excellent point -- something I too often forget about 68k machines is the RAM check at startup.

Holy of Holies -- Quadra 840AV!

I'd be glad to -- any idea where I can find those? :) The Quadras used 60ns 72-pin SIMMs but the largest I can find on Mac sites is 32mb.

    G4 Cube!

I just upgraded the video to the GeForce 6200 256mb card... but I doubt whether I'll upgrade the CPU anytime soon. That's still pretty costly (more than I paid for the Cube & monitor alone).

    G4 Cube!

So far it is... it runs great, and the passively-cooled card hasn't gotten too hot yet. I'm still fighting the random shutdown issue. I took out the little rubber washer and cleaned it with soap & warm water, cleaned the top power switch button & housing, etc., but it still likes to shut...

Holy of Holies -- Quadra 840AV!

Sorry, I'm a little excited. This machine has been my Eleanor for many years. I've wanted one ever since I was a wide-eyed teenager staring at one in the display window at Micro Center. Seller says it has a CD drive, but the picture doesn't show one. His feedback rating is nearly 100%, so I...

    G4 Cube!

It's been a while since I updated this, but the project took all summer and now into the fall before I got it completed... budgeting is FUN... I'm posting this from the Cube, finally, after I've finally nearly finished my upgrades. I installed the new HD, RAM and cooling fan back in May. The...

    Powerbook 3400

Dunno about Wavelan cards, but my 3400 has been running for years on my MacWireless 11b PC Card with no problems.

    Powerbook 3400

It's probably kind of a mixed blessing that it didn't come with a hard drive. My 3400's stock 2gb quantum HD ran REALLY hot, and really loudly compared to the drive I replaced it with. I bought a 10gb IBM Travelstar drive several years ago and it's MUCH cooler and quieter than the 2gb.

    Some questions Here

I've had my Centris 650 for many years, and I don't recall there ever being a "power brick" for it. Simple power cord is all I've ever used.

How to clean a IIfx power supply

Nice ColorOne scanner :) I really wanted one back in the day. My IIfx and Centris 650 came from my workplace, where there used to be no smoking restrictions. Thankfully, neither of the folks in the prepress area were smokers, so the cases didn't yellow TOO badly... although the metal case...
