Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
The thing was buttoned up pretty tight. It took some gentle coaxing with a rounded flathead screwdriver and a spudger to get the case cracked open. Of all the compacts I've opened up, this is definitely the cleanest.
Finally got into the SE/30 tonight. I have to say, it's an incredibly clean machine. I was pretty surprised, since it sat in the guy's attic for years.
The bad news is, there's definitely some electrolyte on the logic board. I'm sure this is why it will freeze after running for a few minutes...
I've actually put the 3400 away in storage with all its parts while I search for a new logic board and have moved on to a new project -- I'll revisit this thread when I find a logic board replacement.
Correction! I was just fishing through the box I brought the 512k home in, and I found the original system disks AND the programmer's switch! The machine has all four rubber feet, too.
I haven't posted a conquest in a long time, and recently I've gotten several. Seems like people tend to create an all-encompassing thread for their findings, so this is mine!
Last fall, at our annual fall company picnic, I happened to mention that I collected vintage Macs. One of the salesmen...
Try reseating the RAM and pulling all plugs from the logic board, then plug them back in and give it a shot.
fixyourownprinter.com used to sell kits for this exact issue, but it appears they no longer sell kits at all. Shame... it was such a great resource for printer repairs.
Oh, there has been MUCH of the plugging/unplugging, removing battery, putting the battery back, etc. -- in all the different ways possible. I've tried leaving the AC plugged in overnight with the battery, then without, then resetting the PMU with the battery, then without... then with the AC...
Awesome... I enjoy his videos, especially when he gets a little salty and starts cussing :)
The Dual 800 Quicksilver DOES install Tiger lightning fast! I've also noticed that. One of these days I'm going to use LeopardAssist to put Leopard on there. It's always stuck in my craw that the 867...
I have a Dual 800 Quicksilver and an 867. The 867's PSU died many years back... didn't realize caps were an issue. Maybe I'll try cutting my teeth on that one so I can learn to start recapping some of my less-valuable models... There's an Irish guy on YouTube who has a lot of recap videos, and I...
Well, that's unfortunate. I took the PRAM battery out a couple years ago when it died, but apparently whatever damage it had started just got worse. At least the machine will run just fine without it. Once I get a new logic board, that is.
Thanks guys.
Last year, my PB3400 quit working. Up until that point, it had been used regularly, at least twice a week, so it hadn't been sitting for a long period of time.
Still, I thought maybe the PMU needed reset. After numerous attempts, I gave up and started looking for a new PMU board. I finally...
My most recent trip was last year when I drove to Cincinnati to pick up a Quadra 660AV... although on the way down, I developed a cough which had turned into full-blown flu by the time I got home. :p
