Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I'm now the owner of this card. It seems to work OK under 7.5.5. and I'm running it at 1024x768. Redraws and scrolling lags a bit at 24 bit color, but it seems fairly responsive at 8 bit color depth. In the Supermac control panel there a switch for "acceleration" but it is grayed out, due to the...
The RAMDAC chip used on this board, BT454, has three output DACs in it, and the card does in fact drive all three outputs to produce a grayscale image on a color monitor. This is with all three ID bits pulled low, to select the "Apple 21 color monitor" at 1152x870 @ 75Hz. The RAMDAC chip adds...
I think I bought the wrong 13W3 to HD15 adapter.... mine has a Sun logo on it, and it's putting the sync pulses on strange pins. But after some kludging with the ID3, ID2, and ID1 lines, the OS recognises the video card and thinks there is a two page mono monitor connected. The video card is...
I'm planning on using it with an NEC LCD19V, which is 1280x1024 native. The manual says it supports 1152x870 @ 75Hz, but I can tell it's stretching things to fill the entire screen.
I found and repaired two corroded traces on the main board that ran near the leaker C16. Now the system detects the video card under TattleTech. The LCD monitor that is attched to the video card syncs and shows gray background at 1152x870 @ 75Hz.
However under control panel Monitors I only see...
Thanks for the reminder. I just re-read that thread and will take another look at chip UH1. It's next to C16 which I noticed was leaking prior to recapping the main board.
I've just picked up an Apple Two-Page Monochrome Video Card and installed it into a spare slot in my IIci. This is the first version of the card with a 13W3 output connector. No signs of life on the attached monitor. Do I need to install a driver for this card?
I have one monitor on the built...
Does the system read from the card's frame buffer very often? Seems like it would be almost always writing to it. Optimizing the logic to have the FPGA acknowledge a Nubus write cycle as fast as possible like you're doing seems like a straigtforward way to speed things up. Going any faster would...
Do the Supermac Spectrum/24 series III cards require the daughterboard for general acceleration?
I'm considering this one but it does not have the daughterboard present.
Also, does this card output sync on green, and can it be disabled?
Anyone have a link to the manual for this card?
Some of those vias were connections from the top layer to the bottom layer, others were a connection from a top or bottom layer to an internal plane layer. I think you'll need to compare against a known good board to see what to do in each case. Just filling them in with solder will probably not...
Reading up on early video card designs it seems like a lot of the complexity was managing access to the frame buffer memory. The host wants to write to it without waiting, the video DAC wants to read from it continously, and on top of that there are DRAM refresh cycles going on. In a world of...
*learns how to access the super secret service menu in the LCD monitor*
*manually adjusts the VGA offset and gain controls until it looks good*
Bah, nevermind. :)
Hrm, that link points to a Swedish talk/variety show. After an hour or so they still have not gotten around to talking about hardware video acceleration....? Was there another file you meant to point to? Takk!
From the developer notes:
So it looks like there are two and only two supported video modes on the IIci internal video:
ID3, ID2, ID1 = 0 0 1, 640x870, HSYNC and VSYNC active, only BLUE video active and there is no sync pulse on blue. 68.9kHz and 75Hz. Intended for the monochrome portrait...
But UE9 pin 128 is an output, which would fight against that pulldown resistor. Plus the "comp sync" output on the video connector is useful for monitors (like mine).
Does anyone know if Apple ever released technical documentation on the IIci video system, specifically that "VGT8002-6216" ASIC...
The IIci is definitely adding sync information to the R G B video signals and shifting the black/blank level up from 0V. This video setup is just strange.
The IIci video chip (UE9) looks at the state of the ID1,ID2,ID3 pins at power up. Depending on the state of those pins the video chip...
I'm using the onboard video on my IIci and it is connected to an NEC LCD19v monitor. I don't think the LCD monitor is "multisync". The adapter I'm using is one of those cheap things with 10 dip swiches. I've found a few dip switch settings that sort of make it work and the monitor reports a...
Sorry I derailed a thread on a Classic II boot/power problem.
Speaking of which... I have a similar problem on my Classic II. When power has been off for more than a minute, it fails to boot. I get the death chimes and I can see some minor flicker in the screen. Cycle the power (or press reset)...
