    A high-quality SATA PCI 2.5" hard card, to celebrate SATA's 20th birthday

Since this is a very early edition of SATA, would this work in say, a PCI-X G5? They have known issues with SATA support and rarely work with anything other than contemporary spinning rust, at least in my experience.

Anyone have a Yamaha CRW-8424S driver?

Thanks for the fast response everyone! This is great advice. For the sake of reference, I'm using a IICI, so no stock internal drive. Running System 7.5.3 Toast 4 worked flawlessly on the first try! Very pleased to have this very tastefully striped drive going.

Anyone have a Yamaha CRW-8424S driver?

Like the title says, I'm looking for the Mac OS installer for this SCSI external CD drive. I found one good copy on archive.org in the wayback machine but it's stripped of its resource fork to begin with, so it's functionally useless. I've tried downloading within OS9 and transferring via...

    iMac G3 power issues

I don't have a solution but can confirm that a grape iMac in my collection failed in the same way, with visible electrical arcing near the flyback's connection to the tube. It's my understanding that certain iMacs of this era are prone to internal failure of the flyback transformer. I tried to...

    FW800 G4 MDD CPU woes

Is there any way to identify bus speed visually? DVWarehouse lists items by a section of the logic board serial, in my case "P3G", which would appear to be a 133Mhz bus for 867Mhz dual CPUs. (167Mhz for faster CPUs) Is this the correct choice for a theoretically compatible motherboard for the...

    FW800 G4 MDD CPU woes

Hi everyone, I picked up this FW800 MDD for $50 thinking it only had power supply issues. I replaced the PSU with a mini ITX power supply through wiring diagrams available online, but to no avail. On boot, I get no chime, no RAM beeps, just fans at full blast after several seconds. The serial...

L2 Variable inductor core repair - Dimensions Requested

Hey everyone, I picked up a 512k-upgraded 128k last weekend, and I've just finished recapping everything. That part went just fine, but now that I'm ready to fine tune everything, I found the variable inductor at L2 has no plastic core or ferrite tuning slug whatsoever. While my very brief...

    PowerBook 520 can't boot 7.1.1

Update: Fixed the issue. I learned I can boot from Disk Tools instead of just using it for the install process, and formatted the disk after repairing it failed. Doing this and repeating the install resulted in a working installation.

    PowerBook 520 can't boot 7.1.1

Hey everyone, Some years back I was given a PB520 with System 7.5.3 running on the default 4MB of RAM. It was fiendishly slow. Recently, I've been attempting to install System 7.1.1 with the appropriate 500 series enabler. The installer operates without a problem, and during the installation...

    G5 2.7 downgrade success(?)

Hello all, I've had this early '05 G5 2.7 marinating for a number of years. I worked up the motivation to revive it recently, but found that the LCS had done exactly what anyone would expect. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't revive either of the CPUs. Thoroughly encrusted. Rather than try to...

    AppleColor monitor output 'squashed'

I recently traded for a IIGS+AppleColor display in unknown condition. The IIGS seems fine, but the monitor is doing this. I've searched but haven't seen this specific failure mode elsewhere though I imagine these suffer from the same electrolytic fatalities as the machines themselves. What...

    Troubled G5 - Overheating issues?

The guide lists ethylene-propylene as suitable for G5 temperatures, though I imagine silicone would hold up even better, so long as it doesn't compress too much over time. Maybe I could do some tests at length and find out what's most resilient? Unity, I'll keep looking for those o-rings, but...

    Troubled G5 - Overheating issues?

Alright, looks like I'll be investing in a LCS rebuild. I'm seeing "white rice" near CPU B. I've found a guide on xlr8yourmac, but I'm having trouble locating suitable o-rings. Does anyone have a recommended source for these?

    Troubled G5 - Overheating issues?

Hello all, I just recently got a G5 (dual CPU, 2.7, 4GB) with a few caveats. It has trouble booting, and if left to sit, the fans rev to max speed but the system doesn't boot (a red LED glows near the lower CPU as well). If forced to shutdown during this cooling frenzy and powered on again, it...

iBook functions normally for a bit, then UI freezes

Well, not the whole UI. The pointer still responds to the trackpad, but clicking, dragging, etc do nothing. Only the pointer moves. I suspect a bad solder joint somewhere, as tapping the underside of the iBook causes the issue to surface, but I'd feel better with a second opinion before I stick...

It's a Classic, Jim, but not as we know it.

That reminds me - Our CAD lab recently got a new 3D scanner. Since we don't quite know how to use this touchy device, I've been working to get it working right. I'm seeing a gradual improvement, though, so perhaps we'll be seeing some new scan-to-print replacement parts soon. :D

    Caps! -- A/B - Macintosh Classic

While I was recapping, I couldn't find the 35v 2200uf cap. Would you mind pointing it out to me?

    Macintosh Classic CRT to VGA/HDMI/similar

I've made a post about this previously. The output is in fact TTL. Also, this may be useful: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=20525&start=0

    FDHD External dimensions (G7287)

The support plastic isn't soluble here. In fact, it's too strong. The pins that were supposed to hold the pi snapped off when I was removing the support structure. We've had larger prints without mysterious support plastic appearances, so this is very likely a modeling fault.
