The following Dell Truemobile 1150 card *doesn't* want to work in my 1400cs.
I've tried installing the 6.00.4 WaveLAN drivers and using these instructions (http://www.penmachine.com/techie/airport1400.html) under OS 7.6.1 and OS 8.1. I can't try OS 8.6 and therefore the 6.3 and newer drivers...
I'd been looking for one of these - model number M8859 - for a few weeks, as (I believe) it's the fastest powerbook capable of running OS 9 (http://lowendmac.com/pb2/powerbook-g4-867-mhz-1-ghz.html). The one I got has 1GB ram, and has OSX 10.5.8 installed. I'm planning to dual boot it with OS...
/me slaps forehead.
I remember reading about master/slave configurations when assessing replacement drive options. The new CD-224E *does* work (and works very nicely!), but it needs to be set as master (or slave - I forget which).
In the absence of a drive jumper, this needs to be done by...
Could be - I'd be unlucky for it to affect both slots though!
This could be of relevance - looks like I'll have to try a fresh install once I get my CF card (source: http://home.earthlink.net/~macwireless/#q1):
"1) The software won't work on my PowerBook?
Affected Models: PowerBook 190, 1400...
This is getting frustrating (although not really, since it's just a hobby machine).
Following on from this thread & post (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=20338#p195981), my Dell Truemobile 1150 wifi card arrived today - and, like the Farallon ethernet card, is not working.
I've confirmed it...
Thanks for the input.
In desperation I fiddled with the adjustment/focus screw of the original 12x TEAC drive and got it reading again, although it's touchy with CDR's (could well be the quality of my burns though, since a fresh burn seems to be running just fine right now).
It could also be a...
*sigh*. The new TEAC 224E turned up today. I pulled it apart to try to get the original 1400c CD-bezel on it, but sadly the bezel is integral on the 224E, so a swap wasn't readily acheivable.
Oh well, no problem. So I put the drive back together and into the shell and.... nothing. Still won't...
Despite my efforts, the CD drive is too touchy to reliably read CDR's, so I've ordered a new Teac CD-224E from ebay, much as it was fun to repeatedly pull the CD drive and tweak the screw :)
I can't get the Farallon to work with my router, which *should* be capable of 10Base-T. I tried the...
Further to my SE/30's restoration (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=20122), I've mounted my hard drive by suspending it between two large rubber bands.
Although the Seagate Savvio 10k U320 SCSI 70GB drive is itself very, very quiet, it was transmitting quite a bit of vibration / hum. Not sure whether...
Well - she's all up and running on system 6.0.8, with the new 10k SCSI drive and the passive pass-through 50-pin internal terminator I linked to above. Even the LED is working (powered off the adapter). Patched HD setup did the job of formatting and partitioning into three 2GB partitions - one...
Ahhhh. I've got a nice new install of 7.6.1 done. The previous owner was Japanese, its now an English 7.6.1 :)
Have yet to retry the farallon ethernet again.
I am interested in kitting this laptop out a bit more, so will keep an eye out for the (rare) G3 sonnet and some more ram.
Of course...
The good news! I got the CD-ROM working with the tweaks outlined on this page: http://home.comcast.net/~gionpeters/hhhh/pb1400.htm
On my unit I had to turn the adjustment screw clockwise a quarter turn, as opposed to the guy in the article, who had to go three quarters counter clockwise.
The...
Thanks for the replies.
My plan is to get the CD module running then get OS 8.6 running. I'm hoping that'll get the internet issues sorted out.
I'll try to pick up a slimline CD replacement today - I've got the module apart and it looks v. straightforward.
The WRT54G-series, released in 2002...
To go with my partway restored SE/30, I seem to have picked up some sort of retro mac bug.
Background:
I just picked up a used (obviously!) 1400cs. It's a fairly low spec'd machine - 133, only 16MB RAM, System 7.6.1.
It hasn't been used in a few years, apparently. Battery is totally dead, but...
Looks like this drive doesn't have an internal terminator: http://www.manualowl.com/m/Seagate/ST973401LC/Manual/51092?page=65
Oh well - time to shop for a bit more equipment. Stoopid SCSI.
This looks like the ticket...
Hmmm. Drive hooked up, powers up, spins. Not detected in Lido 7.53 on the bus scan. I suspect this is a SCSI termination issue - the cheapo 80 to 50 pin adapter I have doesn't have termination power, and perhaps the drive doesn't seem to either. I've tied various pin settings on the adapter...
Well, despite flu, adding extra solder and keeping the hakko at 450 degrees on the ground pin of the 440uF cap for a whole minute, the stub in the board still wouldn't budge. The 220uF cap on the other hand, desoldered painlessly at both ground and +ve ends. Oh well - it's now completely...
Cancel that.
It's still a bodge job, with the new cap soldered to the old lead, and I'd still like to get the old cap out properly, but the lack of floppy function turned out to be a loose floppy cable [:I] ]'> (was *sure* I'd checked for such a basic thing before posting!).
Raises...
