So my Chipquik came today, but I don't have a hot air station - I'm going to go in to a local hacklab to see if I can use one of theirs, and get some instruction / supervision.
In the meantime, I figured I might as well repack my original battery. Prior to this, I was hooking up my new black...
Thanks. Nobody local to me seems to carry anything but liquid soldering flux or rosin flux; I think I'm going to have to order some of the Chipquik in.
Techknight, I came across a mention of putting a resistor between two pins in another of your posts on the subject.

Wondering if you remember which two pins?

Glad to hear it's working out okay - I was a little worried that some tweaks I made to the external contact area on the battery might have messed up the spacing.
People always seem to be more interested in 3D printers when they see an example of how they can print replacement / repair parts...
Techknight; Rajel, thanks for the help so far.
I found in another thread that Techknight mentioned Chipquik SMD291 as a reflow flux.
I'll pop into the Portable again later this week and see what I can do about reflowing joints. I'll take another stab at metering out traces on the hybrid then...
I'm here to learn. This forum have me the confidence to lean soldering, which I've used to repair a bunch of logic boards and PSUs since I first arrived trying to fix my first compact Mac, an SE/30.
Imagine you have an apprentice with you. Reflow flux? Any one in particular? Solder joints on...
This would be a first time for me doing something like what you've described; could I impose upon you to elaborate on the procedure a bit for a relative novice?
Hi all,
Picked up a Mac Portable 5120 (non-backlit) last week; before powering it up, I removed the logic board, removed the caps from it - all of them, except the tantalum cap on the hybrid board - cleaned the board, replaced the caps, and got a new black 6v 4.5ah brick battery.
Putting it...
I haven't had any issues charging my battery in the PowerBook; is been through about 10 cycles by now I'd guess.
I still feel the need to not leave the PB unattended when charging, though.
Curious to hear your experience with use available out of a full charge.
I have never tried LetGo before; prompted by some discussion on here in the Craigslist thread, I hopped on and had a quick look.
What a great coincidence: I've been looking for a Macintosh Portable for years at a reasonable price, and there was a listing up (for a week!) with a Mac Portable for...
Hobby / model shops might have the strips as well.
I used .016 x 1/4" strips for the terminals that connect to the powerbook internals, and .016 x 1/2" for the contacts between the cells.
I hope you saw the updated model here, which picks up the lid rib issue that Rajel identified.
If not, it's probably not worth stopping your print over, there's just some trimming needed.
Here's an update to the PB140 battery tray; main revision is to the cover - the ribs on the original were a little long; this should address that.
PB140 Tray.zip
Don't sweat it; I haven't run any of the "refined" version that I uploaded, since my prototype is 'good enough for now' for me. Thanks for being a guinea pig -- the feedback is greatly appreciated.
It sounds like the ribs on the lid run a little too long. I'll revise that and upload a revised...
