    Leopard on a Sawtooth G4?

Since you're running the original Rage 128 card, don't forget to pull the kernel modules from a Tiger install. JR

    Leopard on a Sawtooth G4?

That sounds like you need to do a firmware update. I think the update changes the platform to "PowerMac3,3".

    Leopard on a Sawtooth G4?

Some of us can't run a dualie in our Sawtooth. :-(

Can't Install Linux on Quicksilver G4

Also, how are you booting the install CD? I seem to have the best luck on the install CDs when booting from OF with something like "boot cd,:\\yaboot". HOlding down opt and clicking on Tux has never worked well for me.

    Leopard on a Sawtooth G4?

With a QE capable video card and plenty of memory, they actually run Leo pretty well. Heck, I've run it on a 400mhz Sawtooth with 1.25gb RAM and a Radeon 7000 AGP and couldn't complain about the performance over Tiger. FWIW, I think most of the slowdown is in the Dock/Finder with the former...

    Leopard on a Sawtooth G4?

The hardware sounds okay. I was afraid you had a SCSI config. One thing, Leo does not include accelerated drivers for the Rage 128. Check the we for instructions about installing the ones from Tiger.

    Leopard on a Sawtooth G4?

I've got it running on the single processor version of the same box. If you got the kp, I'd check to see if Leopard assist really worked. Q: What kind of video card and drives do you have?

Successor to the PowerMac G3 "Outrigger" Desktop?

Before totally dissing the desktop form factor, don't forget that both the Cube and Mini are desktop systems (i.e., not laptop, portable or all-in-one). I think the real death of the desktop was footprint and ergonomics. Putting the monitor on top of the computer makes it potentially...

    Anyone still use firewire drives?

Some of you may remember hearing about the DoD's ban on USB devices a while back. At the military site I worked at until recently, the accepted procedure was to use FireWire drives (without USB ports) instead. This was the source of no shortage of confusion to us technical types since, once you...

    My first SCSI SSD . . . maybe . . .

I'm pretty sure that is mini-PCIe, too. If it doesn't work out, I may have to call in that karma I've been banking. :-) JR

    My Latest ...

Well, I don't have a NexStation, but I do have one of those Panasonic portable CD-ROMs I could be convinced to part with. :-) Actually, two... one with speakers and one without, though I only have one PCMCIA card. JR

    Upgrade WaveLan Bronze to Gold

IIRC, Silver to Gold works with the updater. Bronze to Gold does not and, if you force it, will render the card useless. JR

    Pismo Conquest!!!

I think that which Apple you compare to the Latitude depends a lot on which Lats you've owned. In my case, I've got an Inspiron 8200 which, in some ways, is even more impressive than a Wallstreet, OTOH, I've also owned an Inspiron 3700 which was definately in the Lombard/Pismo camp. (Note to...

Internal USB hub in an MDD

That's exactly the setup I have and what I was thinking of doing. A bit more detail, I was pondering this for a while, but kind of had the idea gel when I freed up a 7-port hub I had been using. It has 5 vertical ports on the front and two on the rear along with the B connector and power...

Internal USB hub in an MDD

I was wondering if any of you had ever put a front-facing USB hub in the lower optical bay of an MDD. Any suggestions on mounting a regular hub (I figure the door will hide most aesthetic flaws) or should I just go with a commercial drive-bay hub? Thanks... JR

Is there a limit on # of ATA busses?

I have a dual 1.0 MDD. Until recently, I was running a drive with Leopard (SATA with ATA bridge) ont the fast bus and an older ATA drive with Tiger on the slower bus. I recently installed a generic Sil3112 "1+1" card that I had flashed with Mac firmware from Weibe and moved the Leopard drive...

How a $70 Conquest Became A Free Conquest

The long delay after the extended powerdown sounds like the PRAM battery, but also sounds pretty normal. I defer to the experts, but I think there is some kind of extended self-test going on. The power light issue is somewhat interesting. My old Wallstreet would never show a power light (or...

How a $70 Conquest Became A Free Conquest

The fact that the drive will can be seen from the OS 9 installer makes me question a problem with the drive connector. I've never had an iBook G4... can they boot Classic? More to the point, what would be the behavior if the Mac OS ( drivers were not installed on the disk? Personally, I'd be...

    Powerbook G3 Lombard

I seem to recall briefly running a headless Lombard and not having to do anything special other than not have the LCD hooked up and plugging in an SVGA monitor.

Ethernet to Wifi on old laptops

Interesting... I'm guessing it's a standard 16-bit PCMCIA card in a PCI adapter. Any idea what chipset in the actual card? I'd guess a Prism2 if only because the card physically reminds me of one I have. (Which also makes me wonder if the drivers could be patched for other Prism2-based cards.)...
