HELP! Noob Building a Parallel Port ROM HackStation . . .

XP SP0 required a minimum of a PII/233. IIRC, SP3 severely raised the bar. Okay, ME was a bust, but 2000 Professional was pretty good.

    Finally, a LUNCHBOX!

Well, that would be a modern era system, though big and without the charm of the lunchbox. It's pretty much the alternate universe counterpart to your beige G3. Digression: my favorite of that era was the Dimension L-series; small, almost cute, with a look like a correctly proportioned 6400...

    Finally, a LUNCHBOX!

I had to look this one up... Wikipedia has a short blurb on the 487SX. It was aparently a math coprocessor (actually a full CPU replacement) for systems with the i486SX CPU (which had no floating point hardware). Specifically, it was targeted for systems which had soldered 486SX chips and a...

Pismo - HDD substitution in AirPort slot, possible?

JT, I thought you were setting up the Pismo under 9.2.2. If so, I don't think the Airport Extreme card is going to work, so you may wait the Airport card if you need wireless.

master p killed my HD (in the PM 6400)

Let's see... big magnet, strong waves, nearby magnetic media... I'm surprised it doesn't happen, actually.

Not a mac... but will be?

BIOS recovery goes back at least to the Pentium era. It tends to be a blind operation, a floppy is prepared containing a copy of the BIOS with a specific filename. A jumper is changed or a particular keypress is held at power on. The recovery mode reads the floppy and flashes from the BIOS file...

    CC's Latest...

IIRC, the T1000 was interesting for being a DOS-in-ROM system (MS-DOS 2.11 according to Wikipedia). I have to admit that I always wanted one back in the day. Definately an interesting example of early laptop.

    CC's Latest...

The Toshiba sounds very interesting. It's not a T1000, is it?

    Thinkpad 600, 600E and 600X!... Sort of.

I don't think you'll be able to. IIRC, USB booting doesn't come along until the T-22.

    Thinkpad 600, 600E and 600X!... Sort of.

I've got a 600E here... no HD or battery and, of course, dead NVRAM battery. It needs a new keyboard, but does work (nice screen). Free for shipping, if you want it... I'l also take trades for Dell Latitude D610 parts (don't I recall you having a dead one? I want to find a screen for one.) I...

    Isn't that 15W?

NewWorld build #7: Graphite iMac DV SE/500.

Funny you should mention Snow iMacs... my latest conquest was the Snow version of your Graphite which, like yours, has plastics coming out in chunks. So how do you compare the 500mhz board in your Graphite with the 500mhz board from the 2001 Indigo? I have one of the Indigo boards and wondered...

I Just Ruined My SATA Card!!!

Part of the size of the Sonnet firmware, I suspect, is that it has to include SCSI Toolbox emulation in order to allow booting of pre-OS X systems. By comparison, the smaller WiebeTech firmware just has to set up the OpenFirmware correctly in order to pass control to the OS X driver. My limited...

    10.4.11 + Classic + Hackintosh = ???????

FYI... best resource for Hackintoshing a Dell Latitude laptop is http://www.osxlatitude.com. They should have a pretty easy howto for your D430; that was where I got the bits for my D630.

USB Wireless mouse on G4, Tiger

You mouse should work just fine without an additional driver as they all look to the OS like a USB HID. The driver is mostly for things like programming extra buttons. That said, there should be a Tiger compatible Logitech driver somewhere on their website (they used to have one for Mac OS 9)...

    Snow iMac

I'll keep the advice re: Panther in mind. So, I finally got Tiger installed and Ethernet works fine. I don't get it, but I'm also not going to argue with it. Installing Tiger was bad enough... the ancient DVD drive didn't like my DVD+R copy of Tiger and only tolerated a DVD-R copy until near...

    Snow iMac

Well, no good deed goes unpunished... It seems as though I'm having some kind of odd problem with the built-in Ethernet. It gets an address from the router and appears to usually resolve addresses, but I can't seem to make a connection to any website, even the router config page (timeouts, it...

    Snow iMac

Strange... after years of not seeing any computers at the curb, I find my second slot-loading iMac in approximately 6 weeks. This one is a Snow iMac and, unlike the previous Indigo, actually works! I haven't checked the model number, but based on the specs, I think it's a Summer 2000 iMac DV SE-...

    Adapting Laptop giblets to Desktops?

NP. I still would have just swapped one of the Dell 250 mechs into your existing Pismo 100, but I can't really say anything... I just went and bought one of the Latitude D 250s for the D630 I have. :-)
