    SPARCstationSTACK comes to life . . .

Can you use two pieces of Sun p/n 501-2480? I've got two here gathering dust that you can have. What is the state of Linux support for pre-Ultra Sparcs these days? I've got an SS20 that I should really fire up one of these days. I'd probably got NetBSD on it, if they'd sort out the...

    Clamshell

It must be... I've got a Tangerine one in my eBay watch list at the moment (300mhz, 576mb RAM, 40gb disk, working battery). Admittedly, it is a very maxed out system, but it is over $200 with almost a full day left in the auction. At that price, you're out of Pismo range and through a good...

    IIfx + Mac286

Out of curiousity, which version do you have- two-board AST, two-board Orange or single-board Orange?

    Clamshell

Lucky ducks.... I confess that I'd love to have a clamshell to play with (particularly a Tangerine one), but every time I see one, the price is comparable to that of a decent Pismo.

    half a dozen motherboards

It looks like 4 Mac Plus boards, a 128/512 board and an SE(?) board.

Wireless USB Adapter works with G3 iBook

Is the iBook USB 2.0 or USB 1.1? If it is 1.1, then that is probably the bottleneck as you would be limited to USB Full Speed (not High Speed). JR

    Wallstreet II wireless card

I think your best case is either two cards (one or 9 and one for X) or one card for WEP under both. For 9, I'd go with one of two cards... Lucent/Orinico WaveLAN (seen as an Airport card under 9) or a Cisco Aironet 340 or 350. For X, if you're going with a late enough version, then I'd say get...

    Mac SE CRT COLOR!

Impressive i a sort of post-Dieselpunk way. Basically, it's what you'd get if you took a left turn at the development of color TV and then carried through to the personal computer era.

    400Mhz Pismo

I've run NetBSD on my Lombard with no problems. The biggest problem, IIRC, was getting X11 configured. A Lombard is fully NewWorld, but is about the portable equivalent of a B&W G3 in terms of firmware.

Yard Sale Find: Not Mac Related

Heck, if you decide to ditch the AMD dual core boards, let me know. I've got a crap case here I'd love to build out into a system. John

SCSI --> USB adapter cables, any good?

A few companies made them, though the two I'm familiar with are Adaptec and Xircom. IIRC, neither have drivers for Mac OS X, just 9.x (as well as Windows 9x through XP). I have both, but have only ever really used the Adaptec and that was with a Jaz drive under XP. I can say that it worked...

    Great Week for Conquests

Q: What are you planning to do with the rest of the Sawtooth? If you decide to recycle it, can I get the motherboard? I'd love to find a DP-compatible one for mine. John

Radeon 7000 vs. nVidia Geforce 2MX

Well, the first attempt has been a qualified failure. I put the card in a PC and flashed it with no issues. I put it in the Sawtooth and booted. Got the Apple logo, got the blue screen (Tiger) but also got something that looked like video hash where the mouse pointer should be. (It reminds me...

Radeon 7000 vs. nVidia Geforce 2MX

I'm thinking I'll probably go ahead and try to flash the 2MX. At this point, I have no investment in it so, even if I brick it, I'm out nothing. Assuming it works, any gotchas I should be aware of?

Radeon 7000 vs. nVidia Geforce 2MX

A coworker recently gave me an old Dell P4 desktop that he was going to recycle. It came with an nVidia GeForce2 MX AGP card. I'm considering the idea of trying to flash the card with a Mac ROM and install it in my Sawtooth which currently is running with a flashed Radeon 7000 AGP card. Just...

    Lombard Powerbook batteries and charging

If you're trying to test/refurb a lot of batteries, there is a lot to be said for picking up one of the old VST external chargers. If nothing else, on really dead batteries, it makes it a lot easier to "dunk" them (i.e., charge until red light, remove, reinsert). Also, no possibility that the...

    CC and 57x mobo

The dual-port Ethernet board is a Farallon EtherWave. It was their attempt to have the cabling benefits of 10Base-T with the bus topology of their older PhoneNet products. They actually had a pretty full product line which included NuBus and LC network cards, a PCMCIA card (3C589-based), ISA...

flash 3gfx video card for B&W

Back in the day, I flashed a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI with the last available firmware (b13?). ISTR it running quite well under the Classic Mac OS with the Voodoo 4/5 drivers. As others have said, though, no X support. I think I still have the card around here somewhere if someone wants it cheap. John

G4 Sawtooth with Dual G4-500 upgrade problem

    K, What's the motherboard version on your Sawtooth? 820-1093-A (v1) or 820-1094-A (v2)? John
