Thanks for the recommendation! Looks like it can even work with one of my 67W apple laptop chargers. Now to find someone who ships to Norway for less than $50 😅
I'll add some tantalums to my upcoming Mouser order! Now I just need a soldering iron that isn't utter trash 😆 (I'm in Norway - finding a decent price/performance compromise isn't so easy)
For my use case, Sheepshaver works great:
1. Sheepshaver can mount both .dsk and .hda files, so I have all my 68k-era images automatically mount when I open Sheepshaver.
2. Sheepshaver allows you to mount a folder ("Unix Root" in the settings) from your modern OS environment as a volume in...
I also have a Quadra 610 with issues (powers on, but no bong or video out), and some of the components have some leg corrosion (the caps look fine, though). Is there any accepted procedure for fixing corroded legs?
Oof that's too involved for me 😄 For me, the DOS card is all about playing maybe a dozen very specific DOS games - and so the portrait display is actually kind of a waste for this setup! But I was curious what Ultima Underworld might look like on a black and white CRT 😄
As it stands, I can't...
This is super interesting! This is exactly the type of thing I'd hoped someone else had figured out 😅 I'm absolutely going to give this a try. I also have the extra audio connector from the PPC I took the DOS card from, maybe I can reuse that.
As an aside, I see there's some discussions about...
I will look more closely at this, but I don't think the bracket will solve the problem because I have a different PCB with connectors on all 4 sides, and even if I could hook up all the connections I needed I would still have a PCB sticking out the back which I want to avoid.
For the sound -...
Success!
It seems the PC disk image was getting corrupted when I copied stuff into it on my Quadra. I noticed it when I used the Win 3.11 image - after the copy operation completed, all the contents of the disk image disappeared 😱 This might be due to the image being created with a different...
This is very inspiring! I'm considering the 33MHz upgrade, but need to build up some confidence in my soldering skills first 😅
I use System 7.1 on my LC 475 with a couple of extensions to get 7.5ish levels of compatibility with some of the software I use (DragThing, Transmit, etc.) - plus the...
last update for today: I got a game to run, which is amazing! I'm having some stability issues, so next steps are making sure all the proper drivers are installed (courtesy of @LaPorta 🙏 ) and then setting up a beefy image with some essential DOS games. Very exciting! Thank you all for your help...
Hell yes it worked! I used the #1 image from the link you posted, @zefrenchtoon
Looks like everything is running - can't check sound, since I don't know how to make sound work when it's connected in my Quadra 700. Might have to capitulate and either move it to the Quadra 650, or move the 650...
Major progress!
I took out the processor and reseated it. Unlike the 68040-processors, it is physically possible to reseat the processor incorrectly 😆 which resulted in the Quadra 700 refusing to boot - it just made a series of rapid power-on popping noises. Also, I bent the pins. But! I did...
Ah thank you, that's super helpful! Very cool to see "Apple Compatibility BIOS" on boot 🎉
Hm, maybe the hard disk image I grabbed online isn't set up correctly. The machine the card is in doesn't currently have a working floppy drive, but I will move everything over to my Quadra 650 and try to...
Update! The adapter has arrived and I've hooked it up, but I am not getting video out:
1. The PC appears to be running correctly, as indicated by the Control Panel
2. I am able to switch to PC with the hot key, but the screen just fades to black instead of to what I would assume is a DOS...
I am 90% sure that just copying the files should work! It's a super simplistic file system. And anyway, this is not a destructive test and there's not so much component tinkering involved, so this is where I would start at least.
I also forgot that you can get a pre-made BlueSCSI with a system...
I've not tried something like this, but I think a non-destructive way to try is:
1. on a modern mac, grab some blank disk image files, I think I used these (hosted on mega, sorry if you get weird popups) https://mega.nz/folder/8hA3AQCJ#pWUq92L70yDXlogy9lk5Dg/folder/01hkVLoC
2. expand one of the...
These are super cool! I will take a closer look once I have the incoming display PCB - ideally I'd want to have all the stuff inside the chassis so it doesn't snap off if I need to move the machine around 😅
