    ImageWriter II alignment issues

Lately I've been having an issue with my ImageWriter II printer. After loading paper between the red guides, the printer will start printing as if the center of the paper is the left edge of the paper. Centered text is on the right half of the page while the left half is blank. Some text is...

    PowerBook Stuck Batteries

The battery door removes from the battery itself. I guess I could rebuild the pack with some new cells, but I'm not sure if I'd do that as I'm not very good at soldering. It would be nice, though.

    PowerBook Stuck Batteries

Tonight I got the battery pulled out. Separating the case wasn't as bad as I thought, though the cheap precision bit toolkit I bought ($10) was the main problem as the bits kept falling out. Ugh! Thankfully, the inside of this machine is clean and there's no corrosion anywhere. There's no...

    PowerBook Stuck Batteries

Last night I purchased a tool kit that has the bits I'd need to work with the PowerBook 165. I'm hoping this isn't a really dumb question, but how can you remove the case (without damaging it) with the battery still installed? Every guide and disassembly video shows the battery being removed...

    Garrett's Finds

I don't think I'll recap the accelerator card. I've heard of the RIFA caps blowing and putting out lots of putrid smoke, but I don't think I've heard of other tantalums going bad unless "provoked" (over-voltage, etc.) I bought the largest size of ESD bags back in May. Will the large bags in the...

    Garrett's Finds

The battery is still coming out, at least on this SE. I'm thinking about buying a new PRAM battery holder for the SuperSE so I can install a new PRAM battery that can be easily swapped out. While I don't really care about having to reset the time/date settings on my stock SE and Classic, there...

    Garrett's Finds

I think you're right. I don't think I'll ever come across a 68881/68882 math coprocessor in the wild, and even if I do I'd have little use for it. Majority of the software I use probably wouldn't take advantage of it and run just fine on the 68030 itself. Somewhat random question, but wasn't...

    PowerBook Stuck Batteries

On the 165, should I be concerned? Also, what Torx bit will I need for it? I quickly found out the T-15 Torx bits used on the compact Macs will not fit. As for the Duo, I tried that and no dice.

    Garrett's Finds

Today I popped the bucket off the SuperSE again in another attempt to remove the logic board and get a look at the Mobius accelerator card. As per LaPorta's recommendation, I discharged the CRT and removed the neck board. While this didn't make accessing the power connector as easy as on my...

    PowerBook Stuck Batteries

I've been trying to remove the batteries from my PowerBook 165 and Duo 270c, but haven't had any luck. On the PowerBook 165, I've got the plastic end piece to slide over, but the battery will not pull out of the machine. I've tried prying the plastic end piece off the machine carefully, but...

    Garrett's Finds

My "file server" back at home currently only has 290 GB of storage - a 250 GB hard drive for storage, and 40 GB drive for Linux Mint. When I get my own place, I plan on either upgrading that server or building a completely new one from the ground up. The hard drives I saw at Micro Center were...

    Garrett's Finds

On both, I believe I used the printer port on both machines. The Classic was the machine being used as the host, so that I could transfer files from the SE to the Classic and onto a folder in the FloppyEmu. (The Classic booted into System 7.1 from the FloppyEmu.) Just a standard Apple serial...

    Garrett's Finds

I went with a friend (I loathe driving in big cities) so I didn't want to stay too long to avoid boring her. Interestingly, she told me she is good at soldering and has done some light programming work with Arduinos. I was shocked to see how busy it was, and to see the diversity in people there...

    Garrett's Finds

As mentioned in my "Duo 270c: Yay or nay?" post, I made the 70-mile journey to Overland Park, KS yesterday to pick up this PowerBook Duo 270c. It came with the power supply and a battery, but nothing else - unfortunately, no docking station. It appears to be in pretty good condition, but I...

Duo 270c - Yay or nay?

Picked up the PowerBook Duo 270c yesterday. 70 mile drive to do a simple porch pickup. It came with the power supply and a battery. Unfortunately, no docking station was included.  :(  However, the laptop and accessories seem to be in decent condition. As per everyone else's advice, I'm not...

Duo 270c - Yay or nay?

I'm sorry... I meant I'm worried that her trying to plug it in and turn it on may have fried the logic board. I won't be trying to power it on until I get it recapped. I'll update this thread tomorrow night when I get back with some photos. If you follow me on Twitter I'll probably post a pic...

    Garrett's Finds

That makes sense. At some point I'll discharge the CRT and pull the neck board off to remove that connector and pull the logic board out. The post is online, in case anyone is interested. It took me about 4 hours to write, but I got it done. Today feels like I'm in a time paradox as every time...

Duo 270c - Yay or nay?

I think it comes with the MicroDock already, but if I may hit you up @glay78 The seller reached out to me and told me she plugged the machine in and tried to power it on, but it wouldn't turn on. I hope she didn't fry the logic board as @mdeverhartwarned me about. We'll see tomorrow.

    Garrett's Finds

I've spent the past four hours typing the post for my blog on the SuperSE, so I'm sorry for the delayed reply.  I will remember to remove the neck board (and obviously discharge the CRT prior to that) when servicing. I learned the hard way on how these SE logic boards slide out... with...

    Garrett's Finds

Problem right now is trying to locate the specific extension. (I've looked in the control panel and I couldn't find anything relating to passwords.) The only thing I could find that might possibly relate is "Finder(keys)" that was located in the system folder.
