Do you think updating the firmware would allow me to install 10.5? To update the firmware I would have to install 9.2 and then update it. Kinda burdensome.
@lightbulb- here you go! I still have struggled to install 10.5 on it, but it's running tiger!
All versions of Mac OS (9 &10) see the CPU as a 100MHZ G4, although Gauge Pro and CPU Director show the correct clock speed.
Has anyone had success running GeekBench? Every time I try to...
Check out "CPU director" for an accurate clock speed gauge on OS X. Keep in mind, it won't work after 10.4.9, so I have just left the system running at 10.4.0 and it works like a dream.
It could. But its difficulty to boot powerpc Macs from usb. Sometimes you get luck and it works, otherwise its a good investment to buy a firewire optical drive as it seems most PPC era Macs are ill with bad-drive syndrome.
The box has a Dartmouth college sticker on it and the floppy seems to be from Harvard. The floppy had a $35 price tag stuck on it, so I imagine it was purchased later on.
Yesterday I saw an ad on CL for a free 128k, I immediately emailed the seller and asked to setup a time. When I got to his house he threw in an extra keyboard, mouse, floppy drive (Harvard stamped) and a bunch of other software. The 128k was upgraded to a 512k, and he even included the screw...
@cc- Nope, the "SE" is the 466MHZ model and they had to switch to the 750cx model Macs. I would love to see a lime g4 clamshell, but that doesn't seem doable.
@max they've got a PPC 750cx.
@cc for some reason, I am struggling to get it to boot on leopard. I believe the graphics drivers for the non-firewire models are missing from 10.5.
No luck. I guess I should be re-writing it on the firmware file/ROM. Open Firmware deletes everything after reboot. Tried making the system think it was a Powerbook6,3 and 6,5 but that didn't seem to do it.
Hello all,
I am looking to install Mac OS 10.5 Leopard on my iBook G3 Clamshell with a G4 swap. Ive clone a fresh copy of 10.5 from my QS and have verified it is bootable. Upon boot up it throws a kernel panic saying "no driver found for a powerbook 2,1". The Mac itself is a 533MHZ G4, and is...
@Lightbulbfun how did you get 10.5 on your Powerbook? The optical drive must be a CD rom drive and you must have hacked the leopard installer? Tiger is much easier to do, but I have been unsuccessful in making a leopard installer. Did you use a firewire iPod? I got to 10.4 but can't figure out...
Turns out you can't mount a fan in the speaker location. The fan will hit and intervene with the display connector. I mounted it right beside the CPU (where the modem goes) and that seems to help. Still a fan that is at max 4mm tall.
