Yes, it is the two tab one, and if they are familiar with the workings you should be fine. The fact that they think it is due to the fan means they have some technical knowledge.
I would not open up a computer while with the seller. On the few occasions I have done it, they seems to get spooked. Many of the people who still have old LCs or Quadras are not that tech savvy (minus collectors) and they are easily scared by you opening the machine. They feel as though you are...
Interesting, I didn't know that. My LC II was making an annoying noise from the speaker. I though the speaker went bad and just disconnected it. Looks like Ive got another project on my hands.
Powered it up to take a video and it looks to be working perfectly now. The tube probably hadn't fired in years and was just warming up. Glad to have this issue out of the way.
Tried to pull the floppy drive cage out but the cage/drive is stuck to the front pannel. Wonderful.
Im not sure if the screen issue is just alignment. One power the screen gets "fuzzy" and then it straightens out to the image seen in the album. Ill upload a video later tonight.
Did the Mac come with red analog board caps? or was it recapped?
The seller had no clue what it was he just knew it...
I have the perfect collectable (Steve Jobs RARE :) ) 128k. I bought this machine as a users computer, I don't mind if it has a few scuffs. I am thinking about cleaning the rear shell and leaving the cute face plate.
Ive spent the past hour cleaning the machine with hot water and isopropyl...
yes, I read the thread bout the spray painted Lisa. This looks to be thick acrylic paint.
The machine looks scratched up, but that's just the top 2mm paint, the actually plastic isn't that bad.
I posted the link to a painted 512k on CL yesterday. I went and grabbed it today and began accessing the damage. The machine came with the original cary bag and mouse. It also included an optical mouse that plugs into the Macs serial mouse port.
I powered it up and looks like we have some crt...
check this out: http://comp.sys.mac.portables.narkive.com/zu2ehdUW/os-9-22-pismo-4-1-8-firmware-update
Looks like you will need 9.1 to update the firmware to 4.1.8
I know for a fact that the only way to update the firmware on a clamshell is to drop it back down to 9.1 then update it. Seeing that these machines are from a similar era, it maybe similar.
Maybe LightBulbFun can help you out with this, you should probably PM him!
Interesting...sounds more like a bad IC on the board that interfaces the battery module. Although it currently works, I would still switch it out. You have the part, so might as well right?
People always complain that clamshells are hard to work on. Frankly they are easier that most machines...
Congrats! Looks like you cracked the code!
EDIT: On a side note, I don't think that cap is going bad. Ive only seen one clamshell complains about the time clock being off. I think it's got another decade of life left in them.
So there are two parts that are involved with the battery charging process. The part that connects to the power adaptor and the part that connects to the battery. The part that connect to the PSU is very brittle and can be easily broken from being tossed around for 18 years.
I believe I sold...
The DC inboard are very fragile, I've broken one by just dropping it from waist high.
I would replace the board that connects to the battery and while you're there check the ground plug that connects to the metal shield. Ive seen a couple of clamshells that have had them incorrectly grounded...
Hmm just noticed that its got a 9200. Will probably sell it as I have no intention (yet) of using this machine. If I ever do, Ive got plenty of spare PM G4 graphics cards on hand.
