Might be worth looking in service manual pics if they haven’t. They often picture prototype boards, but may well be too low res to get the part number.

OK - found a spare internal optical drive - it's a 24x CD-RW from a G4 Digital Audio - this is working fine. I'm now installing 7.6 onto a period-inappropriate Intel 520 60 GB with an IDE adapter

Heya, this did arrive, just had a chance to have a look at it. The case is incredibly tight fitting, not very well made and a complete pain to open up! All appears to be as it should be, so I tried to boot it up, remembering to switch the PSU to 230 V instead of 110 before connecting it up...

Currently on its way over the atlantic and should be with me on Monday.

I was thinking that too - could also be a 1993 machine, but pre-release, so 610/650/800 or a workgroup server too. Or, it could have been erased, but lets hope not!

Yeah I’m mainly interested to see what’s on the board - hopefully a developer ROM, but who knows. Will be fun if it is something interesting!
