MacBook Pro 17" 2.0 Core Duo DVT

Yeah I had a 2006 15” (but Core 2 Duo) - such an upgrade from the 17” G4. The rate of progress seemed much quicker in the 00’s, I was keeping machines for around 3 years then. I retired my 2012 15” a little over a year ago.

And... looking closely at the top left of the board I suspect the connector damage is just to the plastic - you can see the board has lost a couple of capacitors and theres a chipped coil too, so probably impact damage. I will have to check my donor machine to see what is missing.

MacBook Pro 17" 2.0 Core Duo DVT

I actually need to strip it down again, as it has developed the old whiny fans problem that these machines had.

MacBook Pro 17" 2.0 Core Duo DVT

Rebuild complete! (This is also on MacRumors, somewhere)

MacBook Pro 17" 2.0 Core Duo DVT

Ended up taking around 3 or 4 months to get the correct display for it. Also managed to source a (comestically damaged, but new) battery for it a couple of years ago.

Now, I thought I did document this on here, but clearly not!

Incidentally, when i said single CPU dev unit, pretty sure this is the single 970MP derivative - something like this: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g5/specs/powermac_g5_dual_2.0.html

    Performa450's Machines

Borrowed the correct hex key from a neighbour and it doesn't look great! That CPU socket looks like it hasn't been inserted correctly every time:  Plastic damage aside - what do people think of the pins? I've never looked at a G5's pins before but have seen a few mangled intel chips in my...

    Performa450's Machines

Here's a few more pics - showing how the machine has lost a few screws from the factory and what a state the inside is... along with some fancy prototype stickers

    Performa450's Machines

PowerMac A1117 Single CPU Dev unit. It's missing the GPU, disks, internal fan assembly and the side panel. The board looks rather dusty too! I sourced a near matching production unit for those parts last year so finally time to have a go at this one! and yes, the CPU is hanging off the board. I...

    Performa450's Machines

Hello, Though I'd actually start a thread for my machines here rather than lots of posts peppered around the Conquests forum. Previous conquests: Unreleased 2 GHz 17" MacBook Pro prototype Workgroup Server 9150 "Zephyr" EVT-1 Board Early IIgs prototype (need to get back to this and use it...

Wanted: Floppy disk images for Rhapsody for Intel x86 DR1 1997 and DR2 1998

Pretty sure I got those DR2 disks from here; https://winworldpc.com/product/mac-os-x/rhapsody and that site also has DR1 on there.

Wanted: Floppy disk images for Rhapsody for Intel x86 DR1 1997 and DR2 1998

Yes! Had it working probably 15 years ago, briefly tried to recreate it. I also have a ton of other projects that look more fun to mess with first though

Here's DR2 - from the internet, pretty sure I used these to (fail to) install it in a VM.

    Power Mac 6100 DOS Compatible

One thing I did think of - software on it - it was used in a print shop before being retired. It appeared to have a lot of german stuff: * Hermstedt Leonardo/LeoLink drivers (which I can't find anywhere else, and the previous owner hoarded the dmgs, too), * RagTime 3.2 (full - only seems to be...

    Power Mac 6100 DOS Compatible

Errm good question, it has the original HDD/CD combined cable plugged in as from the factory - The HDD will be second on the chain and I've pulled it and put my ZuluSCSI RP2040 in place, which should be set to terminated.

    Power Mac 6100 DOS Compatible

Ah interesting. I am just using the 1.6 drivers at the moment as my copy of PC Setup 2.1.7 doesn't appear to even execute in Windows 95

    Power Mac 6100 DOS Compatible

Yep, it didn't boot from cold this morning until I disconnected the ZipPlus drive - but the ZipPlus has extra special termination, they messed something up and you cannot connect anything to it. It's been happily at the end of the SCSI chain since the 90's though. After disconnecting it (and...
