Software for viewing Notes from Newton

As far as I know, you will have to download NCU 1.0 (Newton Connection Utilities) in order to connect to your Newton, and export it from Notes or Works. This will typically translate it into .rtf format. Some word processors, such as Appleworks/Clarisworks translate it better and willl let you...

    really cheap LC II

I guarentee it is not as SSSLLLLOOOOWWWW as a POS Intel 486 running Windows 95 [:P] ]'> Speed is relative...my G4 with the 1.4Ghz Sonnet upgrade even slows down at time. Of course, since I put in the SATA card, it has sped up a bit, as the built in 66Mhz ATA bus was the real bottleneck, in...

    Daystar 100mhz 601!

Wow! It's almost as much fun as driving on the freeway at rush hour! Except you get it in writing! (It's even better when they misspell the expletives) [;)] ]'>

Mach V board in 9500 case?

Good point...I don't see any reason why the mobo shouldn't fit (with some mods to attach it), but the 9600 power supply is probably huge...will it fit? I have had a 8500 and a 9500, and I currently have an 8600, which is the same case as the 9600. The 8600 is wide (wiiide) compared to the...

    OS 8.6

[:D] ]'> Thank you re: my name and avatar. After 10 years (maybe 12) of surfing the net and coming up with the dumbest, most embarressing "handles"/user-names, I finally have stumbled onto something I like [:)] ]'> Oh, and the other reason OS 8.6 is good is for older PowerBooks, like the...

    USB Serial Adapters

I can definitively tell you that the Belkin adapter does not have any OS X drivers...I shelled out the $$$ before OSX for one, and I was fairly upset when they never supported it. I later shelled out the bucks for a Keyspan adapter, and their support has been very good.

    Newton eMate 300

Congrats! I have an eMate, and 2 2100's (well, UMP 2000's). I love the things, and there isn't much you can't do on them. I assume you already know about unna.org ? If not, get thee there immediately. Ask if you need any suggestions about software. Compared to the MP2x00's, the keyboard for...

    really cheap LC II

LOL...I thought there was a theoretical weight max of 55 pounds or so when placing a monitor on top of an LC. Don't ask me where I get that from, I remember discussing it with somebody on a list, and thinking, phew, my 17" monitor is (just) ok.

    really cheap LC II

I am pretty sure that the problem was the 24-bit memory addressing...that you can turn on or off in the Memory Control Panel. I remember (and now I am 40, memory is getting dicey) turning that on and off allowed me to recognize more memory. I got an Apple IIe card from a list pretty cheap...my...

This is a very well done (spoof?) Newton site

It is for real...I installed it on my UMP2000, with the ATA CF mod, so I could get the songs to fit. Yes, you had to encode at a very low rate, and yes, that speaker is not that great. Regarding headphones, a couple of people hacked their newts to put head phones in (the eMate actually has a...

    really cheap LC II

Hey, For me, the best part of an LC/LC II (and III, I guess) is that you can put an Apple IIe card in one, and emulate an Apple IIe. In order to do this, you have to be running in 24-bit mode, and not 32-bit. Buuuuuttttttt, running in 24 bit mode, it can only recognize max 10mb of memory, no...

    OS 8.6

I know we always want the thing we cannot have, but I always considered OS 8.6 to be the best classic OS for PPC. OS 9 and above started getting really bloated, in order to support OS X and its technologies. I still use OS 8.6 on my SuperMac, and Lombard...I really only use OS X to surf...
