Hmm, maybe I should consider that option as apparently the socketed ones are being kept due to the impression they are rare. I think they are probably somewhat less common, but not really rare as I have seen many reports of them.
It would be cool to be able to toggle the disk images in the Floppy EMU from the Mac itself, via a program or control panel. Then you could tuck it away internally if you'd like and sort of use it like a hard drive. This goes along with the headless version idea.
I also like the idea of being...
Do you know if these are easy to find for a decent price? I always seem to find they are close to $100. I know some people find deals, but I haven't had luck finding them. Anything over around $40 seems not really worth going this route.
Yeah, SD media is pretty cheap. Like Unknown_K says, you can find slightly modern drives too. 68 pin drives may be a little easier to convert to 50 pin SCSI. Real HDs when they are working seem to be easier to setup, but most drives I run into are really loud so I prefer solid state solutions...
It's kind of hard to say what would be best. If you are thinking very long term, trying to go solid state is probably best option. I would search and read about the SCSI2SD product as it seems to be a favorable option and is slightly lower in cost than the SCSI - CF option. But you say your...
What hardware/adapters are you using? The write speed you posted is decent for a CF card, but the read speed is slow. If you are using a CF card, the slower than expected speeds seem to be attributed to drivers you format the card with and the architecture of solid state CF drives since they...
JDW says it is quiet but does not seem to push as much air through as compared to a stock fan. I sort of doubt the CFM rating they claim since RPM is the most dominant factor for most of these types fans. Based on his experience, it seems like a fine alternative, but I would rather run the...
Interesting hack...going with a bigger fan makes it easier to go quieter since you can run at a lower RPM to move the same amount of air. I just recently replaced a noisy stock 60mm Canon fan with one (NMB ~$ 8) from DigiKey and while not silent, it is much better. Adding rubber...
Although it does not hurt to clean your board, I am leaning toward this problem coming from a software issue. If you can, run some sort of disk utility program to diagnose the drive. I would be interested to hear recommendations here. I usually use Norton or Apple's DIsk First Aid.
Solder wire can often include some flux in the core and solder paste usually uses flux in the binder. Extra flux can definitely help in a situation where you are getting poor flow between parts. I was doing some soldering earlier today that was going nowhere until I grabbed a bottle of flux...
Filtering out cow pies gets tiring after a while, especially when they constantly come from the same person. I found at least one solution we can individually control. The "manage foes" tab hides posts by users you specify in your user control panel:
:D
That plot looks familiar... I think I ran the program off another partition in the drive. You could also try to run it off a boot floppy or boot CD image.
Thanks gorgonops, I appreciate your comments. BTW, I don't know about gorgonops, but I am not a huge fan of Three's Company (I caught the post before it was edited and you are not missing much).
I was thinking there could be a section that explains what attributes to look for when selecting parts to ensure you are ordering the right components. Listing part numbers from reputable manufacturers instead of links to parts in online catalogs may also be easier to maintain. Attaching the...
Yeah, it is a bit silly... But, I am wondering if the overall motherboard design, the sum of all the parts would perform any differently between versions. If so, any difference is probably in the noise. I have not heard of any major differences in '030 CPU masks other than a 1um to 0.8um die...
