I'm planning to power the Micro EN/SC off the Mac Plus's external floppy drive port but I'm having to cut a 25 pin D connector down as I cant find a 19 pin connector in the UK!
The only other problem is I'm not sure how to run MacTCP and ethernet on floppies, with or without using Ramdisk.
I got the HDI-30 socket this morning and after only four hours of soldering and double checking the connections it worked powered off my Classic's ADB lead!!!
See below, not pretty but functional.

I soon had the Plus running System 6.0.8 (with no...
This is the spec of my nephew's iBook:

Just a passing thought.
I remember seeing a control panel with Zip drives which had options of whether you wanted the drive to sleep or not.
Am I thinking of software which came with the later driver?
The G4 iBook does have firewire but it's a bit low on ram.
I must say I've never seen an install programme with as few options as the 10.4 disk.
I will try the XPostFacto route.
Thanks
My nephew just bought an iPod Touch and discovered that he needs OS X 10.4.7 on his iBook for the iPod to communicate with it.
The iBook is currently running OS X 10.3.9 so he popped an OS X 10.4.x install disk in it but this refused to install with some sort of message about the machine not...
Thanx.
I WILL, I WILL, but I was thinking of putting OS X on the first 3.5GB of the hard disk and OS 9.x on the remainder.
It doesn't have to be 8GB does it?
...
Thanks for the tips equill.
I did get the iMac gong by re-blessing the system folder, it also had two systems installed!! and it still has problems with cross/linked files - as the previous owner must have had an external drive connected at some time.
So I'm thinking of starting afresh, but my...
Alas, I think the pins are just too tightly packed for crimp on connectors so I'm also waiting for a HDi-30 socke, when the supplier gets round to stripping one from a broken Powerbook. (I must send him a reminder!)
I've studied the pinouts of both machines and apart from the Powerbook's SCSI...
Not seen one of these before!

I do have an AsanteTalk Ethernet/Localtalk adapter but I want the Plus to have full IP Ethernet.
I did try IPNetRouter to turn my 6100/60 into a gateway once, which worked! but it seriously messed with my macine and I had to re-install Open Transport etc. to recover from it!
I'm now in the process of obtaining a HDi-30 Socket but I note that most pinout sources describe the pinouts as from the cable connector and not the socket - which could confuse?
Thanks, I will then have to beg, steal or borrow an OS 8.x startup disk.
The startup options seem so limited on these machines with no floppy and no SCSI.
I was doing some repairs with Norton Utilities on a tray loading Bondi Blue iMac and everythng was going fine until it crashed in the middle of doing something!!!!!!!!!!
It now bongs but then shows the customary flashing "?" on a folder and won't start.
It was running OS 8.5.1
What I want to...
WHOOPS!!!
I've just realized that my cable has a HDI-30 SCSI 'MALE' connector as on the EN/SC Micro, so I can't connect it.
So not wanting to open the Micro en/sc I need a female HDI-30 SCSI connector!!! - but wonder, if I can find some tubes from a suitable female connector, if I could...
I can't find an Asante Mini EN/SC adapter in the UK to get my Mac Plus on an ethernet with IP, so I'm thinking of adapting a Micro EN/SC, made for Powerbook's, which I do have.
I've studied the pinouts of the Powerbook's HDI-30 SCSI connector and the Mac Plus's DB-25 SCSI connector and apart...
