Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Thank's, that's just what I wanted, an explanation of some underlying principles to inform my choice.
So to be completely clear, the caps with the highest Ripple Current rating on the example listing are then 1790mA and the lowest 321mA, yes!?
I'm already missing that lovely startup tone.
I want some capacitors for my Classic, the one's near the power supply, and would like to buy equal to, or better than OEM quality - without going broke for Tantalum's, but I'm confused by some of the manufacturers specifications.
I think that a higher lifetime at a higher temperature is good...
UPDATE. I de-soldered the caps from my A/B and nearly all of them were wet underneath !!! which is a wake-up call, so now I'm shopping for caps.
My hard drive is a Conner CP 3040A ?
Thanks for some "very" good information.
I've already replaced some caps on the logic board to fix a losss of sound, so it seems like more of the same.
Techknight, could you please give me more information on Quantum drives as I'm still concerned about the drive and am considering the...
Sometimes when I switch on my Classic the hard drive starts to spin up then suddenly slows down like the power's been cut, it makes a noise and then starts to spin up again... and would go round in a loop if I left it on. xx(
At other times it just spins up and everything's fine :b&w...
I repaired my Plus keyboard about six yers ago, and made a toool to pull the keys off and two metal strips to ease the switch out when de-soldering the pins.
After dissembling the switch, I inserted a small piece of cardboard (coloured purple in the second photo) between the switch board and...
Ooops! I forgot that most basic keystroke.
No, I don't use a crossover cable when I connected my Plus to the NETGEAR 10BASE-T Ethernet Hub (connected to my WAP) note the grey patch cable in the photo.
If auto sensing isn't present I think plugging in the wrong cable just doesn't work but...
Yes, I could end up doing that after one more go, as I like fixing things but an understanding of how something works is needed to diagnose and pinpoint what's gone wrong with something, and you are effectively locked out from so much with modern PCB's by dint of scale, and, if you read the...
I'll have a go anyway, but if only there was a way of locating stress fractures on PCB's whilst flexing them under power, like a super sensitive infra red camera that might show the odd hot spot, or by some other means which would indicate a point of electrical disturbance?
I think this problem...
THANKS, it's good to have ones experience of a problem confirmed, you feel less on your own, and yes I did scrape the traces back on the corner pins and thought I'd done a good job considering the scale of the pins.
I'm seriously considering de-soldering the chip from the board to site it...
I had a similar problem.
My Classic on System 7.1 is connected to an Asante Mini EN/SC connected to a NETGEAR 10BASE-T Ethernet Hub connected to a Linksys 54G Wireless Access Point which connects to a broadband router downstairs which has a default ip address of 192.168.1.1 but assigns ip...
I got into Verbose once or twice but don't think it got to the end without freezing.
I also checked the Hard Disk with Disk Utilities from another iBook with Firewire and it found no problem - but I've just had a thought!! is it possible to set the mounted Firewire Hard Disk as a startup disk...
I got drawn into trying to fix my nephew's iBook G4 recently, and perhaps rashly bought a new HD first and formatted it and loaded the OS with Firewire from a working iBook..... and thought I'd fixed the no boot problem by re-soldering pins 1 & 28 on the so called V reg chip (plus three...
Drool,
I always wanted an SE, after using a Plus at college, for the extra power and the look of that grooved front.
Pretty sure my Classic runs Word 4, an early version of Quark Express!
So pleased.
After many years on dial-up I finally got a DSL broadband connection and looking at my lonely little Mac Classic I just wanted to get it hooked up to my new high speed connection.
I already had a Mini EN/SC, a Netgear 10BASE-T Ethernet Hub and a Linksys WAP54G and I 'almost' bought...
Does anyone have some experience with Lexmark wireless printers - as a G4 iBook on OS X 10.4.x works fine with this printer but a G4 iBook on OS X 10.3.9 does not, though Lexmark say it should.
Have been on the phone to Lexmark support and they couldn't help but promised to call back, in the...
If I remember right, connection problems with the Quicktake camera had something to do with the Quicktake control panel and I think the Quicktake software was updated at some point to improve things, does a Quicktake icon show in the chooser window?
