Better than that I have a small milling machine with a .005mm DRO scale on the depth and before taking a scalpel to the chip I was tempted to mill away some of the case, so I might do this yet based on the image ChisPVille posted, but even then I think I’ll still have to tease a length of the...
I genuinely accept some of that, as I attended a lecture on Graphene presented by Andre Geim at Manchester University, but most faults have outcomes and the solving of them is of course greatly assisted by knowing how something should function according to spec. as also knowing the underlying...
Thanks, I saw a list of caps for the PSU on the forum so I will price them up, but I’m used to fixing cars so I also like to find and know the root of a problem too and whats bugging me is not knowing what’s happening in this case before I proceed - even if I have been barking up the wrong...
Hear the sound in the linked video, this currently produces a freeze

Plus a frame of the event from the video!
I don't know as it was a gift but this must be the cheapest! https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=clip+on+lens+for+iphone&_sop=15
Hi Techknight, ... but the glue on my flyback transformer is still yellow [:)] and I think the fault lies elsewhere, so I'm now resolved to some serious checking of the logic board according to schematics as I'm still getting the "bzzz" but now it causes a freeze instead of a black screen and...
In retrospect I tried the wrong approach in trying to attach a wire to the protruding stub as I was using a soldering iron and the stub kept quenching it's heat, I got it tinned but with persistence I eventually broke the stub off :-(
Glueing a wire on the surface of the package so one end...
I've now found the ethernet card is stopping my SE/30 from booting as when I remove it it boots fine.
When switching on with the card installed I get no chime (or bong) and the screen stays black,. Why?
Ethernet card, or cards shown below
UPDATE !
I removed the old and put fresh solder on the flyback transformer joints and on the two CRT connectors on the Anologue board, and literally flossed the pins on the end of the CRT, which were a dark blue , with a touch of silver polish, pictures to follow.
Result! as rge raspberry is...
I tested pin number 8 on the external drive connector and it showed a maximum of 12.27 volts and a minimum of 21.22 volts whether my SE/30 booted fine or didn't boot with a black screen, did a chime of death and a simasimac screen, or froze after a "bzzz" which didn't make the screen go black...
Thanks, just.in.time,
I will try and replicate the display crash and then test the voltages on the external disk port and also see if the fan slows down, but I don't know how to test for -12 [:I]
As I have a special tool :-) I'm going to check the card on on the yoke and it's pins for...
