    68030 @ 16MHz vs. 68000 @ 16Mhz: how much faster?

Ah.  My bad for only looking through desktop machines.

    68030 @ 16MHz vs. 68000 @ 16Mhz: how much faster?

Never mind.  Motorola did make a 16 MHz 68000.  Can't find a Mac that used it though.

    68030 @ 16MHz vs. 68000 @ 16Mhz: how much faster?

Was there a 16 MHz 68000?  I see several Macs used a 8 MHz 68000 but haven't found one at 16 MHz. The LC had a 16 MHz 68020 and the LC II had a 16 MHz 68030.

    Renaming the "Trash" (pre OSX).

Interesting to know.  I never tried changing the name and on one system accidentally copy/pasted the icon which resulted in it never appearing "fat" when something was in the trash.  Usually, I applied a blue label to the trash which made the trash can blue-ish which I thought looked better. ;)

    Joystick mouse replacement for Lisa/128/512/Plus

You put the bottle opener on the front panel of the hard drive or unused bay on your tower case. ;)

    Joystick mouse replacement for Lisa/128/512/Plus

How about a mouse with an ADB port and USB port so you can connect either cable and use it on old and new Macs?  Also, when plugged into USB, it's also a flash drive.  Optical too so no mouse ball required.  ;)

I have the mindset; I wish I had the skills to build such things.

Just how many non-standard Video Connectors has Apple forced upon us?

I like it too.  Sometimes wish I had another to use with another Power Mac or as a backup for the 7500.  But, on the other hand, if I had taken $750 back then and bought Apple stock instead, that'd be worth about $140,746.75 today which is an amount the AV14 is almost certainly never going to...

Just how many non-standard Video Connectors has Apple forced upon us?

Just looked it up and the AudioVision 14 was discontinued the same day the Power Macintosh 7500 and the AppleVision 1710AV were introduced.  I know for certain I bought the AV14 and PM7500 together and both were brand new.  Maybe I got a better deal on the AV14 monitor because it was...

Just how many non-standard Video Connectors has Apple forced upon us?

Oh, yes, that thing.  I bought an Apple AudioVision 14 display and a Power Macintosh 7500 system at the local Apple dealer back in the day.  Now, this was a setup I'd discussed with the salesperson and we (home and work) had purchased all our systems through them at that time, so they knew the...

Iomega Zip 100 Drive Click of Death Repair?

Probably a good idea would be to come up with a best practices procedure.  I don't know if that would be possible here though.  If you stick a disk in a drive and get the clicking, is the disk at fault or the drive?  If it's the disk, did the disk ruin the drive?  So, what's step two?  Try the...

Iomega Zip 100 Drive Click of Death Repair?

The power supply issue is intriguing.  It may also explain why (at least in my experience) internal drives have been less likely to fail than external drives.  (I am making a guess here that the power distribution within the computer system is more consistent and/or reliable than from an...

Best way to archive vintage Mac floppies & CD's to images

I know this isn't the eBay thread, but I saw this post and then this auction today: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Apple-Macintosh-400k-Ext-Floppy-Drive-M0130-For-Early-Apple-Macintosh/392663944999

Iomega Zip 100 Drive Click of Death Repair?

Also, for whatever it may be worth, and this is only in my personal experience, I have yet to see an internal Zip drive (one that came preinstalled in a Macintosh) fail.  But, I have only used three such drives.  I have used my 8500 (or 8600?) with an internal Zip drive to image a large number...

Iomega Zip 100 Drive Click of Death Repair?

I know from firsthand nearly extensive (unfortunately) experience that Iomega Zip 100 drives tend to eventually succumb to the dreaded "Click of Death."  If you're lucky, if you can call it "lucky," only a Zip disk will be affected.  But, sometimes the drive itself succumbs and becomes unable to...

    Dummy Batteries? (iBook G4)

Haven't used it since last night but it's still showing a full charge (all four LEDs light up when the battery button is pressed) which is promising.  It's unlike the battery on a different laptop that used to drop like a rock towards its end. I am pretty sure I never got close to the...

    Display Feet? (iBook G4)

I noticed that, when open, the upper right and left corners have holes with the remnants of what I assume were feet of some kind to keep the v case from touching?  Maybe to prevent the keyboard touching the screen or to prevent scratches?  Regardless, they are gone. Were they just rubber feet...

    Dummy Batteries? (iBook G4)

I went ahead and booted it.  Did so while plugged in.  Set the clock, opened a couple files, then shut down.  Tested battery and the fourth LED is solid rather than flashing.  Booted from the battery and it shows the battery at 99%.  Not too bad.  Dropped to 98% after a minute or so, but didn't...

    Dummy Batteries? (iBook G4)

The fourth LED remains flashing after a longer period than the second and third LEDs remained flashing.  Perhaps even longer than the first one since an hour was only a guess as I hadn't noted when I started charging. I suspect the fourth LED remains flashing because the battery is not going to...

    Dummy Batteries? (iBook G4)

Three solid green LEDs and the fourth (and final) is now flashing.  Seems to be charging fairly quickly which makes me wonder how well that charge will actually hold.  Will probably see shortly . . .
