    Journal Software For System 7.5

I found an app called New Notepad II. It should fit the bill quite nicely. While New Notepad II is not an application for creating and maintaining journals or diaries per se, it does allow you to date and time stamp entries. It also allows you to group notes in logical folders so that all...

    Journal Software For System 7.5

I am in need of some software that I can use to keep an extensive journal. This software should date and time stamp all entries and allow for an enormous amount of entries. It must run in system 7. I need this to keep track of every action and reaction for every day, hour, and minute...

Could we add a Linux/Unix forum?

NetBSD runs a lot better on 68k Macs with 36MB or less of RAM. Linux is a real memory hog on the 68k Mac. When I installed it on a Quadra with 20MB, it was swap city. When I installed NetBSD it cruised until I started compiling stuff. Then it stuck its tongue out at me and said, "I...

Could we add a Linux/Unix forum?

I'd like to see a *nix forum on here as well. I find Linux/*BSD to be among the most interesting current generation softwares for the 68k Macintosh. And isn't this forum about 68k Macs and their current uses?

    Trouble booting a Classic

Some of the earlier drives did not use jumpers at all. Instead they had DIP (Dual Inline Package) switches on the drives controller board. The use of jumpers came later. Probably a cost cutting measure, but who really knows? I do find it rather ironic that setting the SCSI ID became...

    Trouble booting a Classic

You should be able to get a decent SCSI hard drive for next to nothing. Especially the smaller capacity hard drives. I'd check a couple of things before I give up on the drive though. Start by making sure that it's not the SCSI cable that is causing you problems. You can do that by trying...

    350mb dosent go very far!

When I bought my first Macintosh, I had to make do with only a 40MB hard drive. I was never able to fill it up though. Macintosh software was hard to come by in my area. And the little compact Macintosh with its black and white screen couldn't run much of the software I was able to find...

Why Was The 68030 Ignored By Game Companies ?

If I'm not mistaken, sprockets weren't created by Apple, but licensed by Apple for use on the Macintosh platform. I forget who it was who created them. I recall reading it in one of my old Macintosh magazines -- MacUser, MacWorld, The Mac, Mac Format, or Mac Addict.

Why Was The 68030 Ignored By Game Companies ?

Pretty much. But the exclusion of the Macintosh created a void that was quickly filled by vendors who could be satisfied with selling only a million or so copies of a Macintosh software product. Disclaimer: Numbers used are ballpark, and are used for illustrative purposes only.

Why Was The 68030 Ignored By Game Companies ?

That's just not possible. The law of averages and statistical probability says that a software vendor will sell 10 copies of each Windows based piece of software for every copy sold on the Macintosh. Why is that? Well, I'm glad you asked. The PC market is ten times larger. Disclaimer...

    Youtube videos

Why not just use a web based app for downloading YouTube videos? That's what I do. Also, if you're running Mozilla or Firefox in OS X, you can get some plugins from the Mozilla page. I've used them in the past with success as well. Generally, though, I snag so few videos from youtube...

    Trouble getting ][FX to start

That is correct. However, looking at the book "Build Your Own Macintosh & Save a Bundle" you could use an AT power supply in a PC case with very little dickering. An ATX power supply would require shorting two pins on the ATX power supply, and everything I've read advises against that...

    Trouble getting ][FX to start

It would be a lot easier to use an AT power supply. An ATX power supply would require shorting two pins on the connectors in order to power on your IIfx.

    Mac 68K Speedup tips here

That would explain why. If you use broadband with an ISP that assigns IP addresses dynamically, you need DHCP. MacTCP doesn't support the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. The workaround is to use a router between your Internet connection and your MacTCP using Macintosh, and to assign a...

Which version of Quicktime do you use on your 68k?

I guess I stand alone in my fascination with bash. [:D] ]'> But there is a gui frontend for mencoder. Go here and take a look. Already compiled for OS X too.

    LC Opinions

I have an LC and an LC III. I like my LC III, but my LC is fairly useless. A 16 MHz 68020 processor is quite a dog as far as doing anything practical with it. The LC III runs quite nicely. Load it up with BBedit Lite and it makes a nice little development system if you're a coder. I...

Which version of Quicktime do you use on your 68k?

MPlayer Runs in Linux, Mac OS X (x86 and PPC), Windows, BSD, Etcetera. Don't know how practical it would be to compile and use it for Linux/BSD on a 68k Macintosh though. It runs fine on Linux/BSD on old and new world Powermscs. Runs well in OS X too.

Which version of Quicktime do you use on your 68k?

Easy, but not necessarily the easiest. Sounds like a pain in the arse. Not overly complicated or complex, but involved -- too involved for a lazy man such as myself. Would probably be much easier to use MPlayer on another platform. That would do everything in one pass, would it not?

Which version of Quicktime do you use on your 68k?

You lost me. Why can't I just use Movieplayer to convert both the video and the sound? Or, an even better question, how do I merge the video and sound together if I separate them and convert each respective part with a separate application?

Which version of Quicktime do you use on your 68k?

What version of Quicktime would one need to view DivX (avi) media on an LC III? Reason I ask, is that I downloaded Debbie Does Dallas from bit torrent (kidding! Just kidding! I'm trying to watch a DVD rip of 2001: Space Odyssey) and I want to watch it on my LC III. I figure I'll have to...
